Another bust

My realtor took me to look at some condo apartments for sale in a new building not far from where I live. It was built in 2025. It’s close to the train and there is a bus nearby as well. Also the library and a grocery store.
They still don’t know what the HOA will be every month and they don’t know the property tax amount either. However, the realtor that showed us the apartments told my agent that the property tax will probably be over $8000 a year. That is just crazy. The property tax in the house where I live is under $5000.
I actually really like the building inside and out. And the apartments were nice. I could picture myself potentially living there, however, if the property tax is that high, that building is out of the question. It doesn’t even matter how much the HOA will be.
According to that realtor this is the only new building in all of Staten Island. How is that possible? And it’s all electric. Supposedly all new buildings are now supposed to be electric, no gas. That means the electric bill is probably astronomical every month.

Your area sounds like a tough real estate market

It is much easier to find a house to buy them an apartment.

The sale price is actually over $550,000. I forget the exact amount.

You may have to keep looking. Taxes sound much too high.

There is a building next to that one that I also wanted to check out but there we already know the property tax is somewhere in the $7000 range. I see no point in checking out the apartments because that’s a definite no.

Very. There is another apartment the realtor found for me to look at but the HOA is $900 a month. And I did not see any information on property tax. Also, the building is very old, which is probably not a good idea.
