How do you beat the heat (and humidity)?

It’s hot, no kidding. I don’t want anything touching me it’s so hot (try telling that to my dog; I don’t try). My air conditioning is messed up so it doesn’t kick on long enough for my liking (they are supposed to look at it next week, and you best believe I’ll make sure they will). Right now, I’ve got a Sonic Rt. 44 sized drink filled with ice and water. I’ve also got a wet paper towel on my forehead. It’s only 10:14am. This is sad. Any idea to beat the ever loving heck out of the heat?

If you lived closer, I'd tell you to come inside with us... We keep the air at 74F here. The Weather Channel claims it is 73F outside at 12:20 pm but it sure feels a lot cooler inside than it did outside!!! If you feel like driving over here, we can clear off the living room sofa and you and your puppy can stay with us for a while.

You could try the old swamp cooler trick...A fan blowing over ice cubes. It is supposed to be pretty effective, although I haven't tried it personally.

I honestly don’t have any other way to beat the heat except staying in an air-conditioned room or spending the day at a nearby mall to cool down. It’s just way too hot, and those are the only things that really help with the heat and sweat. And of course, drinking lots of water too. If the AC isn’t available, those cooling fans that use ice or water help a lot since they blow cooler air compared to a regular electric fan. I also shower a lot during really hot days, sometimes three times a day, because I feel so sweaty and sticky, and honestly, getting soaked in water feels really refreshing.

Run fans everywhere. I have heard you should put a bowl of ice in front of the fan for better cooling.

Use a lot of the AC, air cooler, and fan. Drinking a lot of ice cold water and juices. I've also been taking showers multiple times in a day.

@AmbiePam I've tried taking really cold showers. that works. I've also tried immersing my face in a basin of ice cold water. It helps as well.

Without a/c working properly I would be tempted to take a cool shower and try not to be too active, and of course hydrate, which I am sure that you are doing.

You could try wringing out a tea towel in water and placing it around your neck. I hate high humidity.

@AmbiePam If I'm working outside I have a cloth hat that I hold under the tap, shake off the excess water and wear it wet. That really helps too.

I’m sure sorry. I’m dreading having to run the AC when it gets super hot-and it will be hot in about two more days. Plus lots of stormy weather in the next week with heat involved. Do you have central AC or a window unit? I have central so if it’s on, I have to cool the whole place.

@MarieCoyle I would, but he keeps his air off in the heat of the day. He likes to see how low he can get his bill. Not because of money, but because he thinks it’s a game with himself. On occasion, Diana has had to put her foot down on turning the air conditioner on. He did say he’d bring his big fan over though.

I'm trying to figure out what to do for a car with no ac. Maybe a portable camping AC. They are a little pricey but could help

Yikes! If I don’t have a/c on, I’d have to move to Antarctica. Nothing else would work for me. We’re thinking of having a new one installed just in case. Make sure they get yours working. It’s not even July or August!

Stay hydrated like drink water and shower with water. Hehehe But seriously, even if full AC but once you get out it's no end of feeling hotter. We always experience that here given our country only have a tropical season. Nowadays, it's humidity we've been experiencing.
