Flood Watch

It is thundering to beat the band here right now but it isn't raining/storming yet. I'm kinda hoping it doesn't storm/rain today. I guess we'll see... I do have my bedroom curtains open so I can watch the lightning zig-zag across what little sky I can see. I live in Missouri where there is a flood watch (Dark Green) on the map. The two lighter green streaks (one in Kansas to the West of Missouri and one in the Northern part of Missouri) aren't close to my area. (It normally doesn't flood where I live. I live on a plateau at the edge of the Ozark Mountains.) Screenshot is mine

Stay safe today DE, I hope that you are spared terrible flooding right at your home. We are under a heat warning, with the temperature set to rise to 30C today.

@DaddyEvil They are calling for rain on Wednesday I believe. There is a nice breeze today, which is totally making the weather tolerable. I wasn't ready for this so soon.

Thank you. That's the same temp we're supposed to get today and tomorrow here but we have 100% humidity but still no rain yet. Just lots of thunder and lightning. I hope you get some rain soon with that temp. Good luck!

@Juliaacv We have a 70% chance of storms today and a 90% chance of storms Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a 31 mph/50 km wind today here. (I had to look at the weather map. I haven't been outside today.)

@DaddyEvil Its actually not to bad but it goes quick here. Once the rainy season is done, this place can go sideways usually does go to extreme conditions. I still wonder how the older generations survived this land. No civil society should live in a land this harsh. But its so pretty, probably how it went too.

@crossbones27 Oh, I see... We don't have a rainy season and a dry season. We get rain all year round here. A few years ago we had a bad drought here and the grass and trees all turned brown and the leaves fell off the trees. It wasn't until the next spring that it rained again. The brown grass turned to dust before it started raining.

I live in an area that is prone to flooding, but I’ve never had a problem with a flood even when I lived on the bottom floor of my apartment building. I hope you have a great day!

@AmbiePam You're very welcome. If you came over today, Pretty bought some chocolate ice cream and some Vanilla Bean ice cream. I'd share some with you. (The chocolate ice cream is hers but I'd still share some of it with you. )

Thank you. Ten years ago we moved from a hilltop to a valley but still in the same city. We haven't been bothered by flooding in either part of the city so far. I hope you get some gentle rain today.

@rakski The forecast is saying 90% chance of storms during the night... And the sky still looks like it could rain at any time.

MY daughter is driving down from Minnesota through some of that area today. We had a lightning show last night with just a smidgen of rain. More predicted tonight.

@DaddyEvil Her trip was made safely in both directions. Last night Kansas got hit hard. On I70 near Abilene there were 100 mph straight line winds.

@GardenGerty We've had straight line winds here. Years ago I was working at the Best Western as a night clerk when a straight line wind went through and sucked the glass out of the windows of our house. My second wife, her daughter and Pretty were in the house. I called to make sure they were okay and my wife said everything was fine. I heard wind over the phone line and asked if she was outside... She said she was in our bedroom so I asked why the wind was so loud. That's when she realized there was no glass in the window in the bedroom, in the kitchen and in the laundry room. When I got home the next morning, I saw a huge tree down that had been beside the driveway. It had fallen and crushed her car. The glass from the windows in the back of our house had been pulled out of the windows, carried around the corner of our house and smashed in the side yard. I hope nobody was hurt. Property damage can be repaired.

Hey! You are back. I hope everything is going well with you and your family. The rainy season is waving in our country, and I don't know what the plans of the government are about flood, since there are a lot of evil people who scam the whole country by stealing and faking the flood control projects. I am really praying that God will save us all from those evil politicians and contractors' doing.

At least you get rain, here we're under a fire watch due to the dry air and heat. Thankfully we have at least 25% humidity right now but with the winds due to kick up that'll be drastically reduced. Hey, we could have a giant bon fire ..... thing is there ain't no trees in the desert so that bon fire would have to be in the suburbs where no one wants to see one.

I doubt your trees would survive our dry climate or the spring heat plus if I had to water them I'd go broke @DaddyEvil I do have some honey locust trees, 2 are young saplings though.

My area of TX is desert where you'll find low growing mesquite and cacti but not many trees unless the Rio Grande actually has water in it @DaddyEvil oak trees would never survive in areas like mine that get an average of 6 to 10 inches of rain in a year, 10 inches is if we are in a rainy year.

We have 100% humidity this morning but still no rain. We do have lots of thunder and lightning, though. I'd let you have a few trees if you want them. The back of our yard is a small forest. True, I wouldn't want a bon fire here right now even with the rain we get. The Mark Twain National Forest is very dry and that isn't too far away from where I live.

When Mom used to upset my youngest brother and I, we called her the wicked witch... She always told us to have her broomstick back by midnight in case she wanted to run away from home, too. I'm always careful. Dinner is ready if you're hungry. I fried the pork loin and made broccoli with cheese sauce to go with it.

I don't live in a flood area. To the South of us floods (farmland) and to the North of us it floods (the heart of Springfield). It started storming after midnight last night and is still storming. At least the tornadoes didn't hit close to us last night.

The nearest river to my town is 10 kms from here. I had seen the river flooded years ago. The overbridge was sunk and broken. Since then I have never seen a flooded river..And even if the river gets flooded, the flood water would not reach here. Our town is atop a hillock. Stay safe.

I hope your area and others are spared from any flooding. It's interesting watching lightning from the inside during a good storm. There's just something fascinating about lightning in general, but I admit it can make me a bit nervous if I'm outside in it. We've been having a lot of rain, here in Ohio on and off for the past month, and even now we're expecting storms to come through again. Do you have a place to go to if you have to evacuate? Hoping that won't be necessary though.
