Today is the official start of hurricane season here in the US

We have all sorts of weather here in the US--earthquakes, tornadoes, nor'easters, hurricanes, etc. Here in NJ the worst we usually get are nor'easters which are just strong rain storms. This state is not in the typical path of hurricanes and we very rarely are affected by tornadoes or earthquakes.
Anyway here we go. The only major hurricane to hit this area in my lifetime was Sandy. The NWS didn't even classify it as such and instead labeled it as an "extra tropical storm". They didn't put out warnings that people would take seriously and, well, there was an incredible loss of life and property as a result. They have since revised their guidelines for storm warnings.
So this is the start of the season. As someone who lives in New Jersey instead of Florida, Texas, North Carolina, etc. I don't have much fear of a hurricane. Even if one breaks the statistics and heads here we have days to prepare. We are out of the usual range anyway.
Are you ready for hurricane season?

I am not because that means more rain and I have had enough of the stupid rain. I should be thankful for it but I really am tired of it.

As ready as we need to get for it. In the Ohio Valley we occasionally get leftover rain from a tropical system, although in 2008 we got all the wind from Ike (and no rain, which we needed because we were in a drought), knocking out power to about 90% of the city for a week. (Then we had an ice storm five months later and went through that “90% of the city without power” thing all over again.) My name wasn’t used last year, and YOUR name isn’t even on the list! No Hurricane NJ Chic!

It doesn’t affect me like tornadoes and occasional earthquakes. Hurricanes always scared me when I was a kid. Now, I just get concerned about the friends I know who have to deal with the hurricanes. But as a kid, I watched a TV movie about Hurricane Andrew, and it didn’t matter that it was Florida. It sounded worse than tornadoes. Of course, now I realize tornadoes are worse because there is like a ten minute warning before a catastrophic touchdown, where hurricanes you can prepare for, and even evacuate.

I've been through some hurricanes but Sandy I think was the worst. Hopefully we won't get any major ones this year,

I remember when the remnants of a hurricane hit Ohio in the 70s. We lived on the lake. The huge waves washed out about 10 feet of our front yard and THUMP our septic tank fell onto the beach. That was a nerve-wracking night.

We've had severe storms here with rooves blown off and big trees coming down. Thankfully it didn't affect us much.
