Why I am losing faith in charities out here

I love dogs, I love cattle, I love birds, pigs, goats, and just about all animals that wouldn't look at me as their meal except some like rats, roaches, and red ants. I do not conform to the "love all animals". I am not an animal lover, because I am fine with people eating gators, crocodiles, pythons, snakes, tigers, lions, bears, SHARKS (Inserted for the benefit of childish Americans), etc. So...I am now into doing charity from my purse on my own. Earlier, I donated to organizations, and felt, happy? Now, I am not happy doing that. Here, the charities are called NGOs..non governmental organizations. That is the ones that are registered and get their accounts audited. They have to grease palms for registering the organization, they have to pay a percentage of receipts to some inspectors. At least that is what I heard. When I donate, I think I am paying for x number of animals being fed. Turns out it is less than x number. So I want to come up with SELF SUSTAINING CHARITIES. Small number. But do not depend upon outsider contributions. I dictate terms. Not outsider. I was watching those appeals for donations for Sudan. It is facing famine. Animals are dead. There is also some strife locally. But hey...even though the famine has been around since 2024, women shown there were holding babies that were less than two years old. I am left to wonder, am I the only one that does not feel sorry for such irresponsibility? Should there not be qualification for receiving that help? Who knows who has to sacrifice what to extend that help. So I am against help given to careless people.

I understand very well what you mean and when I have read the statistics on how much the charities spend for their offices, employees and so on and the very little left for animals and people I also stopped donating. I give them clothing and things I do not use anymore, but no more money. Women in some countries should stop making babies.

Oh yes, I read UNICEF stats, and I said to me, I cannot donate to this body. But people do need food you know. Clothes and things don't matter if there is no food. I am for the UN passing a resolution saying help will come your way if and only if you are having fewer babies.

@LadyDuck India badly needs a policy of one woman one child for next 150 odd years. At least 100 years. Our infrastructure is so badly overstretched. But there is no political will for it.

@vandana7 - We can donate food, canned food, pasta, everything non perishable. We do at our local charities, those who distribute food to people in need. Those women need to be sterilized after the second baby.

I understand your frustration with charities. There is an online website that rates charities. Unfortunately I can't remember the name now.

Ranking still does not account for the person to whom the help is rendered. If the mother does not feel for the child, why should I?

Charities don't really seem like charities when you learn how they truly operate. A person really has to do their home work. I am against giving to careless people too.

Phew...I was thinking I am the only one who feels this way. Turns out others are now realizing the same thing. I also realized that Mother Theresa was a very noble soul, but her work for elderly encouraged local people to dump their elderly folks on roads confident that there is an organization to look after them. Instead, forcing people to save for their old age, with children not having access to the money would have been a better solution.

I don't give cash to anything anymore because someone is getting rich from my generosity while very little goes to help

Many people with generous hearts but with smaller purses often spare the amounts that they can truly not afford thanks to the way the reporters present the issues. It is then just cheating them.

I hear what you're saying but in some countries, birth control would be very hard to implement.

We need that for the sake of planet, nor for any religion or region. Surely that should be considered. We should be allowed to discriminate whom we are helping.

People should not give birth to kids they cannot take care of

I agree with that. A human life needs food, clothing, water, electricity, transport, education, and medical facilities, apart from a job. Compare this with a dog. Does not need clothing, requires less water since it does not bathe everyday, doesn't need transport and education and job. Humans live for more than 70 years, dogs rarely cross 15, especially the street dogs. All other animals have less carbon footprint on this planet. Yet, we step forward to help only humans.
