When something is too heavy to manage.

I needed to go to the post office today to send a package, but it was too heavy for me. I kept trying to figure out how I was going to get it down the stairs, into my car, and then into the post office. Now, back before my car accident decades ago, I could have picked it up. It still would have been heavy, but I could have done it. So, what did I do? Yeah, I called my dad. He was busy, but he said he’d find time to come get it. I told him I could call a couple guys in our church who would do me a favor, but neither one of us likes to do that. I did tell him next time he could think of something I could do for him, to let me know. He really hasn’t needed my help since my mom died, but maybe there will be something. Who do you call when something is too heavy for you to manage? It’s tricky when so many people you know are at work, and you can’t wait for them.

Soak your jar of pickles in hot tap water for a few minutes. It will open right up.

@RasmaSandra I tried that trick one day out of frustration--my daughter does it that way. She was right, it really does work.

Well that is good if he can help you with those kind of things. My grandpa always used to help with everything when he was still alive. Now, I call on Eli to help...even though he is 12, he is big and strong!

@AmbiePam A man’s greatest failing is his belief that he can do it without help, no matter what ‘it’ may be.

My son Eli is already pretty strong, and I have partial paralysis on my right side, so he's our go to man!

I have this problem often. I have to be sneaky when I do. The son thinks he should do the heavy stuff, and the doctor says no. Sneaky, sneaky!

I hate asking my dad. He’s about to turn 71! Thankfully, you’d never guess.

@AmbiePam That's wonderful. I understand not wanting to ask him, but I am glad you do have someone to ask.

I am sorry that you faced this challenge. If my hubby cannot lift it for me, our son would. I remember having to move a couple of chests of drawers from 1 room to another before we moved, and I was home alone. I took a rug, flipped it so that the nice side was down and walked the dresser onto the mat, and then dragged it across the hardwood floor-easy peasy, but not exactly the same issue you are faced with.

When something is too heavy for me, I ask Pretty to help me with it... Once I asked the neighbor's son (he's the same age as Pretty) to come help me when she was asleep. He seems like a nice guy and came right over... He managed to do what I couldn't.

Luckily Chris is usually close by to help with stuff like that. Although I am stubborn and have been known to over exert myself so I don't have to ask for help.

Luckily there are still two of us and we mostly manage to find a way around things we want to do.
