So, you may have heard of some people who have had tick bites going on to develop red meat allergies. This is a result of having Alpha Gal Syndrome. Testing positive does not mean you have the syndrome, but you could go on to develop it. There are only about 15 percent of people who have the syndrome and of those only about 1 or 2 percent go on to develop allergies to meat or dairy. I am going to have to take precautions..to avoid tick bites more than I ever have before. I think I should go on to get an epi pen as well, just super in case because they said if you do develop the allergy there is a 60 percent change you could go into anaphlatic shock. Needless to say I was quite surprised and concerned. I will get tested again next year..it is possible if I get no more tick bites my positive reaction will go down..but I don't seem to be able to escape getting a tick bite every summer. I also put on spray with deet any time I am outside for a long portion of time. There is some certain things you can spray on clothes and bedding, in case one is in the house But what if that is toxic to cats or something? The guy who was on the study before probably knew about this and didn't notify me...So did this guy. I just found out about it today when they were sharing lab results. Sigh..It is a small chance I am going to go on to develop an allergy (the alpha gal syndrome has to happen first, but it could happen.

Just take a breath, there's a good chance you'll be just fine, too.

@snowy22315 No, but don't make yourself paranoid either.

Me too, I don't want to be worried every time I eat a burger.

I hope so. I am careful, but they just seem to materialize.

Thanks, I guess the meat allergy is quite uncommon so there's that..but probably higher your degree of positivity the more likely it could be to happen.

I have heard of people having allergic reactions to meat and dairy after tick bites. You may develop it, but if you arrive to avoid ticks you will be fine. I have en epi pen, I bought one after I had to be rushed to the ER because peanuts were not mentioned in the ingredients list of cookies.

I didn't remember you were allergic to peanuts. In general I am a new in allergic type person which is another reason I might not go on to develop the syndrome.

I am just going to have to check myself every time I come in I guess. This area is very bad for ticks
