There was air!

This morning I had to go to the pharmacy by my dad’s house, so I went to see him. I had braced myself for the insufferable heat since he doesn’t turn on his air conditioner unless heat stroke is imminent. Once again, he can afford to run the air conditioner, but he signed up for smart hours (no air conditioner from 2pm - 7pm), and saved so much money he wanted to see how low his bill could get, period.
I walked into his house, and blessed cool air hit my face! Diana was in the kitchen, cooking, and I asked her what the change was. She said they were having company for lunch. So, that is what it takes. Company! His friends visits don’t warrant the air conditioner, but a college student fairly new to the church, does.
To be fair, he’ll readily run the air before 2pm in August, but good grief. I guess this is where growing up in the country and working in the potato and cotton fields came in handy. He’s used to the heat. Diana loves gardening so she’s used to the heat too. Although, sometimes she will tell him enough is enough and turn on the air.
I almost hated to leave it felt so nice. Sadie had a good time too. You may remember my dad told me to leave my dog at home. Yeah, the big softie changed his mind over time.
Do you guys run your air this time of year? Is anyone else signed up for “smart hours”?

I used to never turn on air until July 4. I have had it on this year since a few weeks in March. I also have had the heat back on in May. It is a mixed up year. Smart hours actually would not make my bills any lower, though. I have compared pricing.

Heck, yeah! We're running it right now. We don't abuse it, though - it's set for 78 in the summer and 68 in the winter.

He’s gotta run it for people that are new to the church so that they I don’t know. I was gonna go somewhere funny with this and then I lost my train in the middle of it.
His mom has the air set to 72. It doesn’t go any higher. It doesn’t go any lower. It stays at 72. I was in charge of the area. It would be like 60 all the time at our house. It usually is because I run hot and I’m always you know me. I’m always go go go go go.

I want my air when I want my air, so no smart hours for me. Yes we’ll have ugly Bills this summer but we expect trust. We keep thermostat on 75 though so we’re not crazy about running it too cool.

If it goes above 80 my air conditioner comes on! Or maybe it doesn't even have to be 80 if it's muggy out. The mugginess is what bothers me. I live in Kentucky where humidity is high almost dailyl. I was raised in Utah where humidilty is almost non existent. Yes, it gets hot in Utah but it's so much more bearable. My husband was raised in Kentucky and Illinois and had never really experienced what it's like in the western part of the US. The first trip we made out there together, I watched the bank clock and temp because cell phones weren't even thought of and it was 113. I asked my husband what he thought the temp and he said, low 80s and then I pointed to the temperature. He was shocked.

I run it sparingly, but it is on when necessary. It is on now, but probably doesn't need to be. I didn't want Nico to get too hot while I was gone. Somebody should tell your dad that having the house too hot like that causes a lot of stress for everybody.

Our a/c is turned on in mid May and not turned off until some time near Thanksgiving, which is mid October for us.
We appreciate the coolness and the quietness of not having to deal with open windows.
And the bills, they are just that, and we pay for what we use.

At other houses we've had smart hours but not here. We've been running the heating most days.

We don’t have smart hours in my area. I know if son was not here with me I would probably not hardly run my AC unless I was miserable, our rates just keep climbing up!! Glad that he listens to Diana when she tells him to turn it on.
