St. Louis Fire Department Fire Captain Jake Brockmeier was at home in Imperial Missouri on Tuesday evening of last week when he received an emergency call form his daughter 17 year old Alyssa Brockmeier was involved in an auto accident when a thunderstorm happened at the time of the accident. Alyssa used her Apple crash notification feature to ask for help since she was involved in an auto accident near the home of her parents. Jake went to rescue his daughter along with the help of first responders when Jake managed to get his daughter out of the wrecked auto. Alyssa was taken by an ambulance to St. Louis Children's Hospital where she is in stable condition with broken bones, a head injury and a collapsed lung. Alyssa is in the intensive care unit where she is expected to make a full recovery with the encouragement from her father. The Brockmeier family have an online fund to help pay for her medical condition. Link is msn.com/en-us/news/us/...

He works for the fire department, and his insurance isn’t good enough to pay her medical bills? That’s sad. I’m so glad she is okay.

If she is in intensive care she is very lucky she was able to call her father.

At only 17, she was probably not that experienced a driver to be able to handle adverse conditions like that. She was lucky to have not been worse injured, and fortunate that her father responded quickly. In a wealthy country like America, it is a disgrace the state of their health system that requires such payments for treatments, like that.

That must have been terrifying! I'm surprised the fire captain doesn't have good insurance to pay for the medical bills, though..?
