This ought to be fun, and it's the ultimate share. Hell, imagine the organic traffic myLot could enjoy from a post like this. I am the cook in the house, as I have mentioned before, and so sometimes finding a new and unique dish that becomes a "go-to" is pure gold.
And we all have solid go-tos. Three that come to mind are my braised pork steaks, spaghetti and spinach lasagna.
They never fail to satisfy. I also love a good Mississippi pot roast. I make stir-fries constantly. Beer battered fish. Beer can chicken.
But we also have members from all over the world, and I'd like to know what your number one go-to dish is. THE number one. What is it. Complete with a recipe. How do you make and prepare it. I want the details, because I want to make it. Or try it.
So, what is it? Your number one go-to recipe. Be it a main dish, a side, a salad, whatever it is doesn't matter. I want to know.
Will you share?

I really don't know what I would say was my number one, there are lots of things I like to make (you listed three yourself!) and it varies depending on who's eating, the time of year etc. Still, for things I am known for I would say Steak and kidney pie, followed by Trifle - both good British stalwarts.
I can add recipes lter if you want, just need to get on with some actual work right now!

Chicken and dumplings in the crock pot.
I use 1 box chicken broth, add better than bullion chicken for flavor and we use chicken thighs (skinless and boneless because they are easier and more flavor) Let them cook for 6-7 hours. Then I mix flour, salt and pepper and milk until it comes together--not too wet not too dry. I drop them a spoonful at a time in and let them cook for about another hour or so.
If you like fluffy dumplings use self-rising flour or add baking soda and powder to all-purpose flour. If you like gummier type dumplings just use all-purpose flour.
Sometimes I make mashed potatoes, sometimes cooked rice to put them over. Most of the time it is just them and a vegetable or two as a side.

My cooking depends on the season. Now that it is almost Winter here, I make legumes and stews. The recipe depends on what ingredients I have around.

I guess mine is a chocolate slice that I make. It takes a packet of crushed plain biscuits/cookies (they're called Marie or Milk Arrowroot here), 1 1/2 cups of coconut and 200 grams of chopped apricots. Mix these in a bowl. Melt 250 grams of butter with a small tin of condensed milk. Mix into the dry ingredients and press into a lined tin about 8" x 11". When cold, top with melted chocolate and cut into pieces.
