Happy Wednesday Everyone! the sun is starting to hide and we're expecting thunderstorms as the day goes on. Hopefully they won't be too bad and cause any problems. My daughter has been going to a nutritionist (via online zoom) and it's free through her insurance. She's been getting some good tips about eating more "real food" and cutting back on processed. It's not really stuff we didn't know but having someone help create healthy meals that keep you full and satisfied is a big plus. My daughter and I go to the same doctor and he told both of us (independently) to increase our protein. I've been journaling for a long time and recently started a food journal. Daily logging in what I'm eating for my three meals plus an afternoon snack and one after dinner. At my age I don't need to be carrying around extra weight so I'm piggybacking on the suggestions my daughter is getting from her nutritionist. So far the only thing my daughter tried that I didn't like was avocado. Definitely not something I'll be adding to my meal planning. But, the one thing my daughter added was cottage cheese which she never really ate before. I have one up on her as I've always eaten cottage cheese. It's a learning experience and has almost become like a game to create meals either adding or subtracting certain foods and also hitting our quotas of protein, carbs, fiber, sodium and calories each day. Have you added any new foods lately?

I love avocado in salads, or whole with a little sugar on it is really nice otherwise it is quite bland on its own.

Maybe i should give it another try and add a little sugar or add to a salad like you said. I tried it plain and it just wasn't appealing

With all the nutritional information out there it can get very complicated when trying to add this or that, cut back on other stuff. Etc

I can take avocado in small doses, but that’s good since although it has healthy fats it’s still not good to have too much. My doctor told me to eat more protein too. And, I lost weight when I did that. It sounds so easy, but so many people just don’t eat enough of it.

I do not like avocado either. And I can eat cottage cheese if it is in a prepared dish such as a quiche. I have been eating more raspberries, bananas and blueberries as of late, and once the strawberry season comes on, which will be late given the cool and damp spring we had, I will eat more of those.

Actually I've never used cottage in cooking. I've always eaten it plain with maybe fruit. I'm looking forward to strawberry season too

The doctor wanted me to stop eating sausage for a while and only eat three eggs in a week. Those were both for my kidneys but I've started eating sausage again with my breakfast sandwiches. (But only having three breakfast sandwiches every week instead of one each morning.) My kidneys were still doing okay when I got checked again a couple of weeks ago.

It can get so confusing . I'm glad your kidneys are doing okay and that eating your breakfast sausage isn't hurting

Those that food journal usually weigh less than those that don't. I have been doing a journal through My fitness pal, but I don't do it every single day like I should. I wonder if Medicare has any free nutritionists? It seems like something they should have. New foods,,,hmm nothing new I don't think, but I am eating a high protein snack at night now which I think is beneficial.

We're trying to get Vince's sugar levels down just a little bit. They're okay for his age but a bit lower would be better. So he's having a wrap with salad (mostly) in the middle rather than a tomato or banana sandwich. So wraps are new-ish to us.

I haven't added any new foods lately, but I am most generally good with trying foods I've never tried. I have to watch the hot and spicy, and can't eat that, but that's something I'm used to doing. I LOVE avocados. But like all produce, they are not cheap right now. And any time you can eliminate processed foods is great...they truly aren't the best. I would rather eat one or two bites of real cheese, than a big jar of that pasteurized processed so-called cheese junk. And I really do not like margarine, I would rather just have a dab of real butter. But considering the costs of food right now, many people are just struggling to eat and doing the best they can do. It's good that you and your daughter are working together on this!

Happy Wednesday to you Marilyn I must be catching up as I am with you a bit earlier tonight than I usually am We had thunderstorms and a lot of rain Hopefully yours won't be so bad. I'm interested in what the nutritionist actually offers apart from confirming things that we most likely already know. But real food is the way ahead. A good mix cooked from scratch carbs, fat and protein Loads of fruit and veg. And water. Won't go far wrong like that and you won't be carrying more weight around. My cooking is quite creative , New foods, well Indidntry Okra and didn't like it, and mung beans, another nope I think we have enough different foodstuffs already we use and we don't buy ready meals or even take away any more I cooked again tonight Here it is
