Items are given ridiculous names sometimes ……
I posted last night that I had Lurpak on crackers for supper …..@xFiacre then mentioned Stork …in a tin ….….this nearly gave @AmbiePam a heart attack …..
Things that are every day items to one person may be completely unknown to someone in another country …..
Lurpak is butter ….close as you can get …..and Stork is a type of margarine ……
All well and good if everyone knows what these things are but Amber I think was imagining a real stork in a can ….easy to see why ….i mean …what has a Stork got to do with margarine ! ….i do remember a picture of a stork on the tub though ….
Anyway, I am sorry for any confusion ….it did give me a giggle though !
What things that are said by fellow MyLotters always confuse you ?

It did make me chuckle ….only because I was picturing the size of the tin if it was a real stork. 1
But, actually, although I remember a stork being on the margarine tub, I actually have no clue why it was called that …..I can’t fathom a link between storks and margarine !

I remember asking another English friend about bubble and squeak once. I make it for myself every once in a while now. Pretty won't eat it. (I just call it fried cabbage. *shrug* I do put fried sausage or fried hamburger with diced onions, sweet bell peppers, garlic and spices into my recipe, though.)
English people give stuff such weird names.

This morning I was just chatting to our Italian lodger about cheese spread. The sort of processed cheese that comes in little triangles. Here we have 'Dairylea' and 'The Laughing Cow' brands as well as some other supermarket versions. She was telling me that in Italy they have several, each of which is associated with a character. Apparently Italians really love little characters to identify with. So there's 'Susanna' which looks as if it is targeted at little girls, 'Tigre' which is more boyish, 'Formaggino Mio' (my little cheese) aimed at younger children and 'Camascio d'Oro' (golden chamoix) aimed at adults. Basically all the same thing but marketed in four different ways!

I applaud that marketing team …..
I do like Dairylea but I am definitely a Laughing Cow girl …..I remember when it was little cubes, before the triangles…..

It really is funny how everyday products can sound completely bizarre to people in other countries. Lurpak at least sounds vaguely fancy enough to guess it might be food, but Stork definitely sounds like wildlife rather than margarine. Branding choices can be so random when you stop and think about them.

@Traceyjayne Oh I see.
So if you want something that's as close as you can get to butter, why not just buy butter?

@Fleura I like the taste of Lurpak ……it’s The Mister that points out it’s not totally butter …..I don’t listen to him ! lol x ( that’s why I say as close as ….)

On the pack it says ‘ blended spread ‘ butter and rapeseed oil. I figured if I said ‘butter’ someone would point that out.

I was worried about it when I heard that name.
