Yesterday evening, a couple from the village visited. Vince decided to make a cake in their honour and decided on a Swiss roll. It was his first attempt but, although he followed all the instructions, when he unrolled it to add the jam and cream, it split into basically four pieces.
So we cut it along the two splits, spread two of the sections with jam and cream then added the other two sections on top. After we’d tidied up the edges, it didn’t look half bad at all and it was delicious. He’d added a small amount of thickened custard to the cream and it was yummy. Our guests enjoyed it too.
The photo shows what’s left of one section. I forgot to take a photo before this point.

Taste is what matters. I am sure they take a lot of practice to make

I have never tried to make one, as I know I would fail. It sounds absolutely delicious, though and that is what counts.

So it’s not “beautiful.” My stomach and taste buds don’t have eyes.
“It was delicious.” That is all that matters!

It looks more like a savory sandwich. Our Swiss rolls here are quite different.

Maybe he made the cake too thick to roll? My oldest sister used to make those but her cake part was really thin.

@JudyEv You're welcome. What Vince made still looks delicious. I would eat that.

@DaddyEvil It became more like a filled sponge but still tasted good.

the taste was surely great, it's too thick for its size, you cannot roll it. I used to make a Swiss roll quite often.

but once it split apart we had to do the best we would with it.
