Oh well
The UK is bringing in a ban on social media for under 16,s
It's a year away , next Spring the ban will be law.
So the Prime Minister says.
But he is naive if he thinks that this is going to work as it really hasn't worked in Australia
Anyway, there is absolutely no evidence that social media is solely to blame for some kids killing themselves and having mental health issues
This is a knee jerk reaction , especially with a parliamentary Bi Election on Thursday where if the Labour Party win, Starmer won't be PM for much longer
The news of this hasn't gone down well with kids in Scotland or many parents.
So there you go.
Good like with this Mr Starmer soon to be ex Prime Minister

Aye well I daresay the government will have snoops on all the platforms identifying kids who break this stupid law.

I don't think it'll ever work. Unless they ban all social media for the whole country!

@Ineeddentures Same, it would be impossible to effectively control or monitor it.

I don't know about in Canada
But here it's just posturing bs and words
It's a pointless exercise to appease one or two parents who blamed social media form their kids deaths

@Ineeddentures They are gonna try to do it anyway. Enforce it I mean.

It's impossible to enforce
Especially with kids using VPN, false id,s etc

It's all bs.
Of kids want to go on social media they will
And a wanker like Keir Starmer won't stop them

agree with the other commenter saying it would be hard to enforce... and what about kids who just lie about their age? Or would they be asked for an ID to be able to join or something?

@Ineeddentures Right, why ban things that most people use in good ways, and such...when it is just the few who abuse and/or use wrongly...etc.

Because our wanker of a Prime Minister thinks by banning social media for under 16,s will help him save his nob

I also think that law is hard to enforce since creating an account can be done easily, bypassing the under-16 restriction I hope they can truly implement it, as otherwise it might just push people to go underground and avoid detection by the government if enforcement is implemented strictly.

Yeah, that's not going to work. Not going to happen. I replied to someone else who posted about it with a long detailed reply. Long story short, social media isn't a problem, Taking it away won't save lives. Going back to old school methods of disipline and allowing children to fail and make mistakes will. Actually teaching children critical thinking skills, not how to use AI, will. but that's far to hard, so people won't do it.

"Going back to old school methods of disipline"
Which methods are you referring to Kayla?

@Ineeddentures - It always take a while before a "rule" becomes a law.

@Ineeddentures - This sounds ridiculous, at 16 you are "adult", you can drive, get married, become a parent, but not enough to join a social site. It makes no sense.

Well Anna they have about a year to get the details sorted.
I saw another post on here by someone in England who suggested it was law NOW,
It isnt

It's not even law yet
It has to go though a few stages to even become.law
We won't know if it will become.law until the end of 2026
Enforcement will be impossible

Well, from one way of looking at it kids under 16 should be using their imagination and playing creativily not just online with video games all the time, they shoufd have outdoor playtime and they certainly also learn a lot of bad online, Heck, when I was 8 my favorite pasttime when dad was off work was going with him to the park and we played all kinds of games,

Changed days
I don't think this ban in the UK is for the right reasons
Therefore it's not really fair.

@Ineeddentures Fair enough. But you do see some bad parenting out there.

I'm not going to jump on the blame the parents and judge parents bandwagon Judy
I was arrested for stuff like drinking and getting drunk and fighting when I was 13.
It wasn't my parents fault

I think they will become more curious when something like social media is out of bounds.
They will find a way around it in a hush-hush manner.
I used to just tell my son to take care of his future when he was very much into video games.
That had some effect

All they need to do is use a VPN and hey presto it's a rap
I remember when the first Atari games came out, early 70,s
I was very quickly addicted
