Caramel Cake. / myLot

This one is a favorite here at home. A sponge cake with caramel icing and filling. Not too sweet, just perfect. Every bites melts in the mouth. I like to pair this with coffee. It's a simple dessert but it goes a long way.

That's what we bought last year for my birthday cake! The bakery doesn't make it very often because they say it doesn't sell well here. I had to ask for it specifically for my birthday last October. They didn't charge me extra for it, though.

One thing about caramel is its sweetness; some varieties are so sugary they can become overwhelmingly rich. I prefer caramel that's not too sweet, just balanced enough for me to enjoy.

@rakski I enjoy all kinds of cakes, but now that I’m older, the really sweet varieties don’t appeal to me as much. I prefer those that are sweet but not overwhelming. When I was younger, I liked the ones, but my tastes have changed over time.

Caramels are usually too sweet. It's a good thing yours isn't. That's why caramel isn't a favorite of mine because caramel is sugar. So traditional caramels are overly sweet.

@rakski Yeah because caramel is sugar! And to make a not overwhelmingly sweet caramel cake, I'm sure they had to do something to reduce the sweetness.
