Oddly this morning I was thinking about my great uncle William. The family called him William, but in the world, they called him Bill. My dad's real name is Paul, but the family calls him Bud. Friends name is Steve, but the family calls him Stephen. My nephew is Steven, which is what the family calls him, but he will call himself Steve when talking to others. Do you have a different name out in the world?

Yes. Everyone who knows me calls me by my middle name. I've never been called by my official first name aside from by telemarketers and strangers. I don't know why my parents gave me my first name. They literally never used it.

My mother is called by her middle name. My grandparents said they couldn't find a middle name that went with what they wanted to call her. She just goes by her first initial and middle name.

@snowy22315 Supposedly one side of the family called me one version of the name while the other called me something else so as a baby I didn't respond to any name. My mother was like "just call her **** you can't mess that up!"

I was well into my adult life when I found out that my moms sister Vivian (aks Vivi) was actually Irene Vivian on her birth certificate. She always used her middle name as her first name. For me, my name Marilyn is always shortened to just Ma

I'm baptized Francis Xavier.. My mom used to call me Jibbay. My father called me Jebiar. The Fair Lady addresses me Jibby. Only a professor in the college used my first name to address me.

Reminds me being confused how to introduced myself at work. because my real name is so different from my nickname. Also I and my siblings have endearment which makes other people end up confused too. Lol!

Yes, names can be a challenge sometimes. My son goes by his real name with other people, but we call him by a nickname.

No, no nicknames or shortening of my name. Just plain "Lou" (not my real name)

Michael is a good name. One of my favorites, my son's middle name. Most Michael's end up going by Mike though.
