I found out what was wrong with my car

Remember I had some issues with it last week and we were speculating on what it could be. Yesterday much to my dismay the check engine light went on so I had it checked at Auto Zone. It needs an oxygen sensor. That isn't a major deal, but needs to be replaced. I made an appointment to get it replaced next Tuesday, and they can check the plugs too. I will be driving very little during the heat wave, so it will be fine to get it done then. I hate cars..it's always something expensive, although this shouldn't be too bad.

I must have gotten pretty lucky. But, of course, even though it was my money buying the car, my dad found it for me. Who knows what I would end up with if I were left to buy one myself. I’ve just never had problems with any car. Knock on wood!
I’m glad they could tell you what it is!

@snowy22315 I drive about four times a week: pharmacies, numerous doctors, church, parent’s house, shopping, taking treats to my friend whose dogs I spoil, and the post office. Mainly city driving although I remember when I used to drive to Tulsa all the time. So long ago! Yeah, now it’s not a lot of driving.
Oh, and hilariously, we drive my car when I hang out with my best friend, but I’m not the one driving. She has to drive or gets carsick, but her car stinks. So when we hang out, she drives my vehicle. I told you about how bad her car stinks.

@AmbiePam Yes, but how far do you go? I guess if your car is new enough you aren't going to have too many problems.

I just worry about it damaging the catalytic converter. the car also uses more fuel than it should because the fuel mix isn't right

@snowy22315 Many years ago we thought we had a catalytic converter issue. It ended up being a lose wire.

I am sorry that you are having issues with your car.
I guess that we have always been lucky when our check engine light comes on, it usually just means that I did not screw on the gas cap tight enough, or I drove with it off. One time we had to replace the gas cap as the seal on it was worn, so we replaced it and it fixed itself.

That can happen with some cars, Supposedly it happens with mine if the gas cap isn't on right, but it has never gone off.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I have spent on cars, I would be a wealthy woman!

@snowy22315 - I know that my husband has wasted plenty of money in cars.

With issues like this, it's always good to have the repair shop put your car on one of those diagnostic machines to check out the systems. It's not completely foolproof, but often it can alert to problems that can literally lead to other problems. In spite of everything modern and up to date about cars, some of these sensors can almost cause more problems than they are worth.

They will probably have to to find out what sensor it is. There are several.

Yeah, it is good they will be able to check the plugs too.

It's not unusual for the check engine light to be some sort of sensor. Glad it's a pretty easy fix for you and not something that needs immediate attention.

Yes, glad it wasn't signalling a misfire or something worse.
