There’s one thing for certain: in my countdowns, there’s never a dull moment. Yesterday we had late 60s/early 70s country; today’s it’s early rock and roll. And for you newcomers (I have to mention this once a month because the music styles swing like a Benny Goodman record ), yes, all of these are MY picks. I like all of this stuff. Duke Ellington famously said, “There’s only two kinds of music: good and bad.” So let’s get rockin’! All Around the World - Little Richard I never will forget that moment when Little Richard was presenting a Grammy award (I think it was for best new artist), and when it came time to announce the winner he said, “And the winner is….ME.” He got a standing ovation for saying it, too. And, there was a kernel of truth to it: while he was obviously joking (“Y’all ain’t never gave me nothin’!”), he truly WAS “the architect of rock and roll.” In this song (it’s not “Tutti Fruitti” or “Good Golly Miss Molly,” so you’ve probably never heard it), he dismissed the people who dismissed rock and roll as a passing fad. “All around the world, rock and roll is here to stay.” Oh yes it was. And it is. All Around the World Written by Robert Blackwell and McKinley Millet Recorded by Little Richard From Little Richard, 1958 JUKEBOX LYRICS: You can hear those jukebox jumping all night and all through the day

What I found interesting is that Miles Davis, who never cared much for self-promotion and stayed out of all that, for Kind of Blue he insisted on some 45's being released for the jukebox market.

Well, “Freddie Freeloader” is one of those songs “everybody” should hear, so I can understand.

@FourWalls - Apparently Freddie actually used to show up at the church they recorded it in, always asking for free stuff.

I just can't recall this one. I remember the Miss Molly song well. My sweet aunt had a wonderful friend named Molly. Every time she came over to see my aunt, my uncle would sing out ''Good golly, Miss Molly!!'' I truly appreciate the good memories you bring with the songs you post. Many have reminded me of good moments in the past I had rather forgotten.

Frankie Lymon was such a tragic case. When I was 25 I was getting out of the Navy. When he was 25, he was dying of a heroin overdose. Little Richard was a hoot. They’ve done a made-for-TV biopic on him, but not a “big screen” one. Good documentary on him, too. In fact, I think PBS ran one called “The King and Queen of Rock and Roll.”

I was really introduced to Little Richard when he performed on the family sitcom, Full House. I absolutely loved it, and I love this song too.
