This heat wave is really sneaky.

I don't function my best when I get too hot. I never have. Today, it was beyond miserable out there...and I had to take son to the treatment center. If the weather is nasty, I try to use valet parking. Evidently everyone else was doing the same thing, I couldn't stay in the patient drop-off and park there, I had to go to the parking garage tower right by it. Of course, it was pretty much full, and OF COURSE I had to park on the side of the tower that was the furthest away from the elevators I needed to get down to the main level. By the time I got to the elevator, I was so hot I was getting a weird dizzy feeling. I sat on a bench by the elevator for a few minutes. Felt ok, got moving and got on the elevator. Hit the main level, have to walk under a canopy thing to get in the main entrance...ok, I know the way, done that a gazillion times. Except...I couldn't. All I could think about was how hot I was. Long story short, the lady in the treatment center put ME in a room and called the practitioner on duty, who came and decided I was too hot (obviously!) and dehydrated (I don't see how, all I do is drink ice water!) While son was getting his jazzy juices, mom got IV fluids. I felt fine then, and I checked out fine. I just got too hot, plain and simple. They sent us to the cafeteria and got us some food and some cold drinks, we sat and enjoyed that and then we were good to go home. Don't just say ''it's HOT'' and keep on going. I had no symptoms, I was fine until I wasn't. If it's this darn hot, heat index crazy like 110++, I am not going anywhere. We will just have to wait until it cools off!! Lesson learned....I'm ready for FALL!!!!

There is something I got free to review called, I think, The Cold Can. Not an incredibly inventive name. You keep it in the freezer, and it takes about 45 minutes to get it properly cold. You just carry it wherever you go. You can certainly put it to your face and neck, but I just had to hold it in my hand while walking my dog to keep myself from getting over heated. It might get too cold for some people, but it sure keeps you cool when you need it. I’m just so sorry you had to deal with that today.

Hmm. Not heard of that. One that I’ve done many times is to wet a big hand towel, wring it out, fold it longways and curve it like a horseshoe. I freeze it and it works well. I put one in the freezer again. Thanks, Amber.

Oh my goodness, I am glad that you were at the hospital and a nurse could immediately take care of you. I know that I must be very careful when the temperature is too hot. I hope you are fine now.

I'm ok now, thank you, Anna. After we got home, we both rested for a bit. It was weird....one minute I was doing fine and then it hit me that I was just too hot to do anything at all. Maybe it's age, maybe I just didn't realize I was feeling the heat like that. I know I have been drinking a lot of ice water. One of my issues is that I am not what they call a ''sweater'' as I can get really hot and not really sweat at all. I've always been like that. I think that caught up with me and now I learned that lesson, for sure.

@MarieCoyle - I also do not sweat and I know this can be a problem when the temperature is too hot. Two days ago, when it was so hot, for a while I could not see clearly, I had a "double vision" of everything, it was a bit frightening, but it only lasted 5 or 6 minutes.

We honestly didn't want to go. But he had to, so we went. The heat was making the roads look wavy and weird. Very strange.

I know, they said I was white and even my lips had no color. But they got me fixed up. Thank you so much.

The heat outside is hard on me since I have to drink water and juices to avoid dry mouth.

It's just hard to be outside. I feel like I am being baked in an oven. Drink lots of water, George, and stay well.

It's hard to do things when the weather is awfully hot. We've just gone past the dry season here in the tropics, and I suffered the same symptoms whenever I was go out. It's now the rainy season, and weather has become more tolerable. Good to know that you and your son both received proper care at the treatment center.

I was just fortunate to be where help was available, I think. I haven't had heat affect me in that way in a very long time, and have never had to get IV fluids because of heat. I will be more careful in the future on really hot days.

That must have been muserable. Glad the medical staff was attentive to Your needs and our did not pass out. The hospital center in Charlottesville is much the same. I used valet parking last time. I a m supposed to go there in late July tentatively. I already told them I will not go in on an overly hot or oppressive day.

Glad they were able to help you out. It can be very dangerous especially if you are not used to it

That sounds just awful. I'm glad they looked after you like they did. And I hope you don't have such a hot trip again.
