What's the oldest food in your freezer right now?

I think my freezer deserves an archaeological dig. Every time I move something, I uncover another "ancient artifact" hiding in the back. Today I found something I don't even remember buying. I guess it's a reminder that I should clean out my freezer more often. Please tell me I'm not the only one with a freezer that keeps little surprises. What's the oldest thing you've found hiding in yours? P.S. Since many of you in the U.S. will be celebrating today, Happy Fourth of July! I hope your freezers are stocked with plenty of ice cream, popsicles, and other treats to help you stay cool while celebrating.

There is nothing older than 3 months in my freezer. I keep it cleaned and not over stuffed, I do not want to waste food in case of a power outage.

@sol_cee - My husband now eats close to nothing, I try not to keep a lot in the freezer.

@LadyDuck I'm sorry to hear his appetite isn't what it used to be. I hope he's keeping as well as he can

Since our freezer is small and can’t hold much, we usually empty it by the end of the week. The only thing that tends to stay longer are the ice cubes, as only a few of us are used to having ice water with our meals, so they mostly remain in the freezer.

@sol_cee small enough to store a few meat and some frozen delights from time to time. But it cannot store too much.

How small is a small freezer? The ice cubes must be the longest-term residents then

Pretty bought some cauliflower, thinking I'd help her eat it... It's several years old now. I'm not a fan of cauliflower by itself. I can eat it if it's mixed with other veggies but these are bags of just cauliflower. She says it's too much to eat by herself. I keep suggesting we throw them away but she won't do it. Pretty has chocolate ice cream in the deep freeze but I'm out of my ice cream. And thank you very much! We'll be staying inside over the weekend of the 4th. I'm allergic to something in the smoke given off by fireworks. I get hives along with a rash if I get in the smoke.

I'd be more interested in the chocolate ice cream than the old cauliflower! And I don't blame you for staying inside, especially with your allergy. Hope you have a relaxing weekend!

@sol_cee I don't like chocolate ice cream, though. I like vanilla or salted Caramel. YUM! Inside is best for me for this weekend. You could come and visit, though.

@DaddyEvil Salted caramel is a great choice too!. Haha, thanks for the invitation! Staying inside with ice cream sounds like a perfect way to spend the weekend. Were there any fireworks where you live?

Oh crikey …..I darent look …..I know that there are lots of things that have been in so long The Mister is refusing to eat them. They are fine ….they are frozen. It’s going to take twice as long to use them if I have to do it by myself …..

Haha..I don't even have a freezer. The erratic power supply doesn't encourage it

That makes sense with the unreliable power supply. So how do you usually store food without a freezer?

I'm surprised at this--considering how hot it's been lately--that the oldest thing in my freezer is ice cream. Somehow, it got shoved way in the back and has kind of hidden itself from us, which is probably why it hasn't been eaten yet. Just today I was digging through the freezer and saw it, and thought to myself that it would be great to enjoy a bowl of ice cream on such a hot day. But here I am several hours later, and I still haven't had a bowl of that ice cream! haha

Nothing ever gets too old in my freezer nowadays. I seem to be better at keeping it cleared of old stuff.

The oldest is spring roll wrappers. I have to make spring rolls soon before the wrappers expired. My freezer is stocked with rye breads, veggies, pork and chicken meat, Ube Halaya, fruits like berries and sliced cakes and cupcakes. Of course there’s a homemade ube ice cream just in case I crave for it.

Homemade ube ice cream? That would be the first thing I'd reach for! By the way, how long do spring roll wrappers usually last in the freezer before they expire?

@thelme55 Homemade ube ice cream? That sounds delicious! Six months is impressive too—I don't think mine would last that long because I'd probably finish it in a week.

@sol_cee Yes, homemade ube ice cream from my ube powder. Approximately 6 months, otherwise, it’s stated in the package the date of expiration.
