What's up with the blonde hair?

My natural hair color is dark brown. Well at this point it is gray but you get my point.
There are periods of time when I just dye it brown at home and there are others when I get the works done (full head foil highlights, toner, etc) at the salon. In any case I'm NOT ready to go gray.
My mother kept pushing me to get the color done while I was on my spa vacation. I was like "what's the point when I'm just seeing strangers here and it will have to be done again when I get back?" She insisted that I get it cut though so I didn't fight her on that.
When I did finally get back I tried booking an at-home stylist several times but never got an offer so I asked her to come do my roots. She of course chose a dark brown dye. I was expecting it and was fine with that.
Well fast-forward like 2 or 3 weeks later and a lot of time outside in the pool my hair now looks almost blonde. Students have seen pictures of me from over the years and they always say they like me blonde. Problem is that it isn't my goal. I'm good with brown hair and highlights. (hey I'll take the sparkly colored tinsel too!)
Who knows how light it will be by the end of summer? I will definitely have to get it done before I return to work. It is just weird to me how light it gets so fast when I am doing nothing to make that happen aside from spending time outside.

Hey, it looks really great.
I went lighter before going grey.
And even going grey was not so much my choice as it was the government's as we were in lockdown from COVID and it completely grew out and I just wasn't ready to start with a new colour at that time.
It is hard to find a colour that looks natural, but yours really does.

It's all that time you spend in the pool. At least it's not turning green, or falling out.

I guess it is a combo of the dying and being in the sun. The more you dye your hair the more it seems to lighten when it washes out..but if you just had it done recently, that is kind of surprising.

It does look good blonde... You pull that off very well, in my opinion.
Back when I spent a lot of time outside, my hair would turn from dark auburn to bright copper red... It still gets coppery red if I stand in bright sunshine even in the house without spending time outside.
(I have a white streak down the center of my hair now... At least it is just going white instead of a dirty blond color.

Just now
I had a friend whose hair would get a green tinge from the chlorine in the town pool. This was years ago.
