These fireworks stands must have “buy one, get 6,000” specials.
Actually, it wasn’t bad at all last night. Last year, with the 4th on a Friday, it was all weekend.
Oh, well, back to work and back to the jukebox! Here’s one that most people know.
Chug-a-Lug - Roger Miller
Third time’s a charm, they say. Roger Miller had a contract with RCA Victor, and everything he recorded bombed. Then he went to Starday, and everything he recorded bombed. He was ready to give up music and go to Hollywood to try acting, but he needed money. He signed with Smash Records, and Jerry Kennedy took him into the studio for an album.
Five Grammy awards and a couple of million sellers later, Miller forgot about acting.
You probably think of songs like this and the other big hit from this album, “Dang Me,” when you think of Roger Miller. He could also write some great ballads. One of my favorites is “Husbands and Wives,” which Brooks and Dunn covered in the 80s. Miller also wrote “The Last Word in Lonesome is Me,” which was a hit for Eddy Arnold.
Roger Miller was one of a kind, that’s for certain.

Even though Roger Miller is before my time, I like his song that was shared here.

So did Jerry Kennedy have the magic touch, or did the rest of the world finally catch up to Roger Miller?

Oh that Miller, he came up with some real dooozies. I can't believe he boomed with those first 2 recording studios , he had a real talent for humor in a song.

I was happy when the storms put a stop to fireworks around 9 pm Saturday night.
We only heard a few fireworks going off Sunday night before it started raining again.

I definitely remember Dang Me and Chug-a-Lug. It seemed they were both on the radio constantly for a very long time, everyone knew the words to those two songs.
