Why do people do that?

Someone opened the storm door just now and banged really loudly on the house door.
I don’t open the door unless I am expecting someone I know or perhaps there’s a delivery I am waiting for.
I have a doorbell and it actually works.
Why not ring the doorbell instead of banging on the door?
I don’t get it.
It could’ve been one of the neighbors because I heard kid voices.
I think a street party may be happening toward end of July (mainly for kids) and perhaps one of the parents wanted to tell me about it.
I remember seeing a paper about it on the ground next to my porch.
I couldn’t pick up the paper as it was behind two small trees I have next to the porch.
I wanted to try to pick it up later but it must have blown away because it was no longer there.
I don’t know how much they are charging for the party but I have no intention of participating.

It is not. But if somebody knocks quietly, the person at home will probably not hear it.

I find it very rude to bang on the door especially when there's a door bell.

The only reason to bang would be when you rang the bell but nobody opened the door. It could be the doorbell isn’t working.

I have always also preferred hearing a doorbell, not banging on the door that makes me think there is an emergency, However, here I have no doorbell, but up near the attic no one can find me and no one comes, Maybe that street party might be fun.

To me banging on the door is rude although I can see how it can also mean there is an emergency.

We very rarely get anyone at our door. Like 5 times in 12 years

I guess when the doorbell is small, it’s easy to not notice it.

I am not a fan of that either, especially if they are trying to sell me something.

My storm door is always locked from the inside, regardless. I've always done that--to me, it makes sense--why lock one door and not the other one?
Maybe you should think about the street party. It might be enjoyable to meet some new people.

Many towns and cities have what they call block parties, basically for their own block, so neighbors can get to know each other. Most generally someone will grill burgers, etc. and everyone brings a dish to share. We had one here a few years ago, right before Covid hit. It was fun. Many of us just sat and visited, but it was good to get to know more neighbors.

@MarieCoyle what we had here before there was no grilling. I’m not even sure if there was food.

That sort of sounds like a teenage-type of get together. I've been to several over the years, there was always food at ours. So is it just drinking, talking, maybe dancing?
