That was my husband’s motto for 23 years as a police officer, at least half of which was working third shift
“Nothing good happens after midnight”
I inquired of him whether or not people do bad things during daylight hours too, which of course they do, but the real trouble is midnight to 6 am
Sometimes like now when I can’t sleep and it’s 12:30 at night I think of going out to the gym, but I know that hubby would not approve. He thinks I’ll get hit by a drunk driver
There is a downside to being in law enforcement more than 20 years. — you get cynical

It's very natural of your husband to get cynical as he might have seen so many cases in those 20 years. My friend's husband is a neurosurgeon and he is so paranoid about head injuries and safety precautions. Their house is designed all around keeping that in mind. He gets paranoid for little things around that other regular people might ignore.

I'm totally paranoid about any kind of symptom. I've read so many case reports about people who go to the doctor with things like a slight stuffiness in one nostril and find they have a tumour basically filling their head
, if I feel anything other than 100% fine I start thinking I have some fatal condition.

I always believed the same thing that nothing good happens after midnight. I even told my children that a zillion times when they were teens and even in their later years. My curfew for them was always right before midnight,

Yes hubby would serve warrants in the bad part of town very early morning to guarantee to catch them at home
When I was a claims adjuster and had to take scene photos or measure skid marks in bad part of town I did it early before the bad guys woke up

Sleep happens after midnight, that’s why I stay home and participate.

I KNOW! As a twenty-something, I was always out after midnight. I worked evenings and overnights so was used to being awake after midnight. I was awake reading one night when somebody knocked on my front door... It was a police officer asking why I was still awake. I told him I was reading and he said "Normal people aren't awake this late at night." I started laughing and told him I could call my mom and she'd be awake and reading, too. He called me a liar so I called mom and, when she answered the phone, I handed the phone to him. He asked mom why she was awake after midnight and she told him she was awake and reading... He handed my phone back to me, I talked with mom for a minute and then hung up. He apologized for bothering me and left.
I guess he'd never seen anybody who worked evening or overnights before.

I'm sure policemen have a lot to put up with on their shifts.
