That Was GOOD!

First things first, I haven't bought ground beef in a hot minute. I just refuse to pay the prices they want. Right now, the cheapest I can find is about $4.44 per pound at Walmart for 73/27 in the 10-pound tube.
I still won't pay that, and that's rolled back from $4.97 a pound.
So, last week I saw a 3-pound package of fresh ground turkey for $10. That's still high in my book, but more digestible even if I'd prefer beef.
But right away I thought, man, it's been a while since we've had a meatloaf, and I'd really like to have one. So I bought the ground turkey and took 2 pounds for the meatloaf and froze the other pound I didn't need.
The meatloaf turned out delicious.
As is often the case with meatloaf, there's always something left. So, last night I thought hey...I've got some leftover hamburger buns. I've got the meatloaf. I've got cheese...
So, we had meatloaf sandwiches with fried onions and cheese. That was, hands down, good eats!

Meatloaf is amazing, and so are leftover meatloaf sandwiches. I tried making a meatloaf once out of ground turkey, and although it was okay, it just wasn't the same as the way I normally make it (half ground beef, half ground sausage).
But now you've got me craving meatloaf!

This was fresh ground turkey. In the past I used the tube kind, and it was always gritty and the wrong consistency. This was much better, and it tasted good. Not exactly the same as beef meatloaf, but it filled the bill and didn't empty the wallet as bad. lol

Well I reckon we both can follow a recipe
And we know an American lady just down the road
I ate her meatloaf , that's what she called it.

@Ineeddentures Meatloaf is kind of like chili, spaghetti, lasagna, certain soups...everyone has their own way of making it. Some are good. Others are something left to be desired. lol

I’ve never heard of 73/27. Is that like 73 lean and 27 fat?

@lovebuglena Maybe they don't sell it in New York? I imagine they would, though. It's everywhere. I have never not seen it.

I almost never buy meat at Walmart. I can find it more affordable elsewhere, but I don't think you have access to some of the stores we have here. Ground turkey makes a good meatloaf. I use it alot for that.

I'll make you jealous then. I just made meat loaf, with ground beef last night. It was sooo good. I don't like to pay that price, but I will, because beef is soooo good and soooo good for ya. I did need to tweek my budget over the last few years to keep my favorite meat on the table, so we gave up all vegetables not grown in my garden. it works out just fine, we grow a very garden in the summer, we can, & freeze. so we are not missing out on anything.

That's really expensive for ground beef especially since it's not even 80/20 or higher. I would have passed on that too.
We haven't had meatloaf in months and now my mouth is watering. It's always been one of my favorites along with mashed potatoes. Leftover for sandwiches is a double yes!
Glad your turkey worked well and you got more mileage with the sandwiches. Prices are beyond ridiculous these days.
