Flea Market News

As most of you know, I have had a boot at this flea market almost an hour away from me for 10 years now. It is owned by an elderly gentleman who is in his 80's now. He no longer works at the flea market, but pops in and sits at his desk and plays computer games to pass the time away. He has regular workers for every day of the week and weekend. The office crew is pretty good about swapping days with other workers when they are sick or going on vacation. It's a good group. I also worked in the office on Sunday afternoons for about 2 years. Several of us tried to get the owner to do a big sale outdoors on one Saturday of the month. This idea usually draws a big crowd at other flea markets. We won him over and we tried it out, but he chose the wrong weekend--the same weekend that a very large flea market in Louisiana and only 2.5 hours away does their big monthly outdoor sale event. Ours did not draw any more people than a normal Saturday. He kept trying for a couple of months. I tried to explain to him how big this other place was and another vendor chimed in. NO go! This man is a little bit (cough, cough) hard headed. But, he has now decided to retire and is selling the business to his sister. She has already started posting signs that children must accompany a parent at all times inside the building. This is a much needed rule, as some people let their kids destroy booths playing with toys, opening things that they should not, etc. Sister (I don't know her name yet) takes over at the end of August. It will be a nice change! She has already told the office staff that she will be putting some ads in several papers to advertise the flea market. Current owner never put any money out of advertising. Win!!! She also has plans in the works to clean up the building and replace/repair some much needed eye-sores! This building was once an elementary school. I'm hoping for regular size toilets in the Vendor's restroom! They have little bitty short ones for kiddo's in there!! It is sounding like we are fixing to get a facelift at the old flea market! Yay!! That's just a little good news I wanted to share with ya'll. Do you have any good news to share? Photo Credit: Public Domain; flea market

I’m so glad to hear the good news about the flea market. Trust the woman to realize what the problems are, and try to fix them.

I hope she can make a positive change with what all she has planned. Hmm...tiny, short toilets, doesn't sound like fun unless you are 2-3 feet tall! I hope it all works out in a good way for everyone.

on the toilets!! All those kids must of been really short back then!! It's getting rough with getting older --you feel like you are almost on the floor!!

That's certainly all good news. The older you get, the harder it is to get up from those little toilets.

Tell me about it!! I mean what was the deal?? I can understand elementary schools, but other places? Was it a thing back in the 50's? 60's? I don't remember any from the 60's like that, but was a child so maybe not memorable??

@JudyEv And I know there is not that many midgets in the area!! It would have to be a specialized school for several areas and/or states due to the size of it!
