Why do men do that?

Our friend's wife was in the hospital. So we invited him over for dinner. I fixed a roast, baked potatoes, corn on the cob and fresh peaches. He was happy with the meal and was glad that we invited him over for dinner. When he left I went into the bathroom and he had left the toilet lid up. So I was just wondering to myself why do men do that? Oh will such is life. It is nice and cool here at ten PM. It is 69F. All day it was in the 90's.

@jstory07 Perhaps the more pertinent question is “Why do women always leave the toilet seat down?” When did down become the default position. Anyway, I wouldn’t dare!

@Traceyjayne I know a man who didn’t realise till well in his 20s that it was normal practice for a man to put the seat down when he needed to sit! All his life he left the seat up and sat straight on the porcelain! He’d been told as a child that boys always have to lift the seat when going to the toilet and he assumed unquestioningly that this meant for both sorts. He was amazed at the comfort when he learned that it was ok to lower the seat when he needed to sit.

@xFiacre We don’t leave it down ….its normal position is down ….it is the male who find it necessary to alter this …..the worrying thing is….isnt the hole already big enough for the male to aim at !

Because apparently if you flush the toilet with the lid open, the water creates an aerosol and basically sprays the contents of the toilet around the bathroom, covering everything within 6 feet. So if you flush with the lid open you might want to move your toothbrush further away.

@Fleura - I was just kidding. I've lived with enough women over the years, I don't leave it up even in my apartment.

My dad had a friend who used to come over, but he never put the toilet seat back down afterwards. He and I had a teasing relationship, so every time he’d do that I’d call out, “Booob!” Instantly, he’d know what he did, get up, and go put the seat back down. Eventually, he started to remember, and quit leaving the seat up.

@Traceyjayne Urinals obviously don't have lids so I expect they're just not used to the idea.

@Fleura I understand that, but they use the loo at home more than urinals when out so you would have thought they’d have got the idea by now ! You can put man on the moon …..and bring him back again, which may not have been the best idea ….yet you can’t train a man to put the lid down on a toilet ……as females , we are failing !

I trained my kids that you used the facilities, shut the lid, and flushed. Every single time. Medically, for sanitation reasons, it is recommended to do it like that. The force of the flushing waters sends tiny water droplets (and whatever else is in the toilet) in to the air...and no one wants to breath bacteria. Nope.

Do you know that some people don't flush after using the toilet? I don't understand why some grown people do that

It may be what he is used to at home. My brother and his wife do not have anyone else living with them. The master bath is hers, the other bath is his and he always leaves the lid up. I figure that is how life goes when they are home alone.

Yeah, even when you tell them a million times to put it down. I was watching a show where the husband left the seat up, and the wife was stuck in the toilet for several hours after sitting down. They had to take the woman, toilet and all, to the ER, where they finally broke the thing with a sledgehammer so they could get her out.

I have to keep the toilet seat down for health reasons that a kitten or cat might jump in out of being curious.

outside their home, they should show some manners, in my opinion. i also experienced that. i think last time with one handyman. i paid him for something, he asked to use the bathroom, left and then it was, staring at me. i mean, bad manners for me. also, strangers not taking their shoes off. i let it slide but they could at least use a doormat if the shoes are too dirty, ah.

I wonder why men do that. Hubby is not doing it. He close the lid before pushing the toilet water. We are aware of the bacteria that comes out of flushing the toilet water with open lid.

Some persons are like that. One of my friends came to us on our invitation, dined with us, went to the washroom and left the light on. We switch on the night when using it and then switch it off.
