Another One of Those Days

I had an appointment in Wichita today. My last clinical trial follow up. So I knew that it would be one hour driving there, one hour driving back, and however long it took for the appointment. My plan was that my friend/pastor Janet would come sit at my house, while Bob slept. He knew this and he likes Janet. He had another one of those nights, he kept wandering around the house, getting to the wrong rooms, etc. He could not make it to the bedroom, so lay in the floor a while because he thought he could not get up. We did eventually get him up. He sat in a chair and snacked. I reminded him about Janet, but then said he could come along and she would just sit with him during my appointment. He wanted to do that. Last night was another very disturbed night. I did not expect him to get up, but he was up and dressed and ready quite quickly. Appointment went well, then we got home. He wanted to stay out a while. Then he got confused and could not get to the house or get in. I sent Janet on home. Eventually, after an hour or so of repeated getting up and down from sitting on a tool box, Bob walked around his little car, and laid down on the ground. I again called EMT's to get him up. Again he said he wanted to go to the hospital. Long story short : his blood work is great, and he does not have a fever, so even if he has a UTI we will not treat it. He was so soundly tired, from his own misguided efforts, that he would not, could not, open his eyes to talk to medical people. He is tired from not sleeping and not eating. His primary care doctor told the ER to prescribe him Seroquel to see if it helps him sleep at night. I picked it up. When they brought him to the car I told him we could go get a cherry limeade and chicken nuggets. His was happy to do that, though tired. I tried a new approach for getting in the front door, and was successful. I still had to make the bed with clean sheets and pads. He took his meds and is now happily sleeping. Very nice surprise on my front porch, an early birthday card from Amber.with a flamingo, of course.

I feel so sorry for your husband and I know that you are also stressed and exhausted. I have been there. Take care of yourself, and my best wishes for your husband.

Oh, Heather. I can’t imagine your exhaustion. I know we all wish we could do something for you. You know we’ll pray. I’m so glad you got your card and liked the flamingo.

I am sorry, it must be so frustrating and heart breaking. However, you still have your little wins in there which I am sure help keep your spirtis up some.

Oh, my. What a time you had! Maybe if you have to be somewhere like that for an appointment Janet will just come over and you can convince him to just stay home. I bet you are just exhausted.
