Run in with a skunk

My daughter has been taking our pup for a walk around 8pm. Just to give her another chance to do her business, stretch her legs and such. Well, last night, they had a run in with a skunk. My daughter was fine, but the pup not so much. She got sprayed by the skunk. We didn't have anything to help with this, but thankfully a neighbour has dog shampoo and such to help with the smell and all. Not a pleasant situation to deal with especially at that time.

Poor pup, I have heard that the smell is so horrible. I hope your daughter and the pup were not too stressed.

@dodo19 - those little animals are cute, but moody.

It wasn't a pleasant smell for sure. I think she was more unhappy about having to take a bath.

I thought you were supposed to bathe them in tomato juice. At least your daughter didn't get sprayed. When I had a dog here, I was always afraid he was going to get sprayed...although honestly, I haven't seen any skunks in this immediate area.

Yes, that is one method. Another way is using peroxide. Which we did and then used shampoo. Thankfully it was only one of them who got sprayed. Hopefully you don't see any skunks.

@dodo19 I wouldn't mind seeing one, as long as it stays away from me.

It definitely didn't make the walk pleasant that's for sure. They're all good now, smelling fine. Thank you.

I am sorry that happened. It must have frightened your daughter. Tell her to be careful as skunks are territorial so she may encounter it again. Skunk spray can cause blindness in dogs.

Thanks. I don't think it scared her too much. I'm sure she'll be careful from now on. I didn't realize it could do that. I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

Oh, man. That must have been incredibly stinky. My dad got sprayed by a skunk once as a child, and that was when they poured tomato juice on you.

Yeah, it wasn't a pleasant smell. It's still something we can do now. We just didn't have tomato juice handy.

Skunk smell is horrible and I feel bad that you had to deal with a stinky dog. I live in the country so I've smelled skunk many times..yuck!
