Medical update--all good!

When I met with my counselor today I mentioned the bloodwork from last week and the Vivitrol shot. She looked at the notes in my file and it said that I was not approved for the shot and that I needed to get bloodwork at LabCorp because I guess they could analyze more than the company that this place usually uses. I was fine with that. I didn't think I'd be approved right away. The counselor ran into the NP in the hall and asked her about getting a medication refilled. She said she would come into her office so we could talk. She said that I didn't need more bloodwork and that I was approved for the shot. She also said that she went over the bloodwork with me yesterday and I was like "definitely not". The counselor and I were so confused. After the NP left the counselor looked up the lab results because I wanted to know what my platelet level is. Normal range is 150-400. When I got down here it was 39. As of Friday it was 205. That is a HUGE improvement. I mean when I had a platelet transfusion back in March the # went from 32 to 51. I was really surprised (and thrilled) that it got so high so quickly. I knew it had improved because the nosebleeds and random bruising stopped but I didn't think it would increase that much. So she called in a script for a couple of days worth of naltrexone. It is the same medication as what is in the shot. She wants me to take it so be sure that I won't have an adverse reaction. If she just gave me the shot and it caused problems then I would be dealing with the effects for a full month. That's the medical update from here. Like I said--its all good!

I'm glad your medical update is much better than it was! Hopefully, your platelet count won't drop again like that. Pretty is still having trouble with her iron and potassium. The doctor doesn't understand why, though.
