How are you with spices?

Are you guys pretty adventurous with your spices? Do you just use one here and there, or do you buy mixes, where individual specialty batches have been made and sold? Do you have a favorite? I love experimenting with different herbs and spices, but I don’t do it much because of the cost. I don’t really have the money to experiment and take the chance I won’t like it, and thus waste the money.

I love spices and seasonings. I have been known to go a little overboard , sometimes my mil says it’s got too much flavor. I didn’t even know that that could be a complaint.
So yes I move seasoning.
As far as a favorite… probably anything by Kinders brand. There’s a garlicky butter steakhouse one. So good

I’m definitely willing to experiment with spices, but I usually stick to individual spices that I know I’ll use regularly. Spice blends can be tempting, but I hesitate to buy them if I’m not sure I’ll like them. I’ve found that buying small quantities and experimenting with simple combinations is a good way to discover new flavors without wasting too much money.

My son in law is such a good cook. He really loves Penzey’s often he gives me little freebie jars of spice mixes he receives when they give them out with people’s orders and he has shared some with me. Some are really good. Some he knows not to send as I am allergic to basically anything with a shred of jalapeño spice in it. But It’s fun to try the ones he has sent.

I like spices that can be used in lots of different dishes, so there’s less chance of wasting them. Small packets or ready-made mixes are also a good way to try something new without spending too much. What spice do you think makes the biggest difference to a dish?

I don't really cook so I can't say I'm experimental with spices. I am adventurous in the sense that I love tasting them.
