I Dreamed I Moved to Tulsa

I haven’t been sleeping much, but this morning when I woke up I clearly remember my dream. Now, it did involve re-enactments of The Golden Girls in nursing homes, but let’s set that aside. I had moved to the Tulsa area, specifically where my sister lives. And I was so happy. But I think it was more because I had just seen a reenactment of a Golden Girls episode in a nursing home. *Where my sister lives is 2 1/2 hours away from here.) My dad has tried to get me to move near my sister since my mom got sick. He actually hasn’t said anything since my mom died. My sister simply said she’d love a free babysitter. Although, Amyra can do that now unless it’s overnight. But my church is here, my mostly competent doctors are here, and my 71 year old dad who I see once every two weeks unless I make it to church is here. And, as much as I hate my apartment, I saw the one in my sister’s city. She lives in what was voted the nicest and safest city in Oklahoma. Their section 8 apartments were also dumps. Also, my best friend lives here. Should I really think about moving?

Is it not possible to find competent doctors there and a new church? The mention of Tulsa made me remember an old friend that I lost touch with. He's from there.

Well, I know everyone at my church as I’ve been there for 29 years. Seeing as how shy I am finding a new church would be hard for me personally. And as for competent doctors, I’m unsure. There was one point in my life where I had 3 consecutive awful primary care doctors (one got arrested, and one told me fibromyalgia was a disease made up in women’s minds), and finding a good one was an answer to prayer. However, my last two primaries were excellent). So perhaps that that one shouldn’t be such a worry.

In your heart you will know when and if it is a right move.

It sounds like overall you feel rootedand comfortable where you are. Unless something changes radically probably best to stay put, especially since you said you and sis don't always get along.

Yeah, we really don’t. Not for my lack of trying. And, recently, she’s tried too.

You do what YOU feel is best. Don’t let anyone pressure you into a mistake or a decision that they won’t regret but you WILL. If God wants you to move He will make a way.

Whereever you feel convenient to move. Isn't Tulsa also very populous city in Oklahoma?

Yes, it is the second largest city in Oklahoma. I would live in Owasso, a suburb of Tulsa.

I would stay where I was if I was happy! It sounds like you have a good support system around you also!

Honestly yeah I think you should at least think about it - but I wouldn't take the dream as a sign that you're supposed to move to Tulsa. ?? It sounds more like the dream tapped into how good it felt to imagine being somewhere and genuinely being happy. But you’ve got a lot tying you here: your church, your doctors, your dad, your best friend, and your sister, who is only 2½ hours away. And if the apartment situation there is just as crappy, moving might not actually fix the thing you hate most. I’d probably spend some real time in her city and imagine what ordinary life there would actually be like, not just “I’m closer to my sister.” If you discover you genuinely like the place and can picture yourself being happy there even without the babysitting factor, then yeah, maybe it’s worth considering. But I wouldn’t move because your dad wanted it or because of one very weird Golden Girls dream. ??

You named a lot of reasons to stay and none for moving. I think you have answered your own question. But only you can decide

@ambiepam I’ve let dreams dictate a few major decisions. Good biblical precedent I suppose.

I think I'd be staying put. There doesn't seem a lot of benefit in moving but of course, it's your decision.

I was more than ready to move up here when I did in 2013. The area I lived in had extremely bad health care, and one by one my kids had flown the nest and moved north. It was time. My family helped me move and I’ve never regretted that. I do miss my best friend. But we do talk nearly every day. Until all of what has gone down with the son, we visited often as well. We both miss our in-person visits. You do you, don’t let others decide for you. If you are destined to move, you will be guided by the Lord and by your own wisdom.

I wouldn't move if I were you. I want to live close to my dad plus, getting competent doctors somewhere else might be difficult

You hit the crux of my issue, which is my dad. I lost my mom when she was 55, and I hate to leave the vicinity of my dad and stepmom.
