What a Day (Long)

Today we had to arrive really early at our son's place. He dropped his wife off at work and then had to drive downtown to get some mechanical work done on his truck. I watched the girls while Grandpa drove downtown to bring our son back home again. While home with the girls, every morning this week, we have them sit on their stools at the peninsula and make their school lunch. It might sound like a pointless exercise, but literally the JK students have to be able to take their lunch pail out of their backpack, unlock it and open it and eat it, in good time as they also have to go outside to play. They have a bento box for lunch, they have a smaller one, with 2 sections for their snacks. Snack time is what many of us recall as recess. The children are instructed to go to get their snacks out of their lunch pails and eat 1 snack. They have 2 sections in that box, so they can just empty 1 section. Again, in good time, as they will need to use the bathroom before going outside to play for a bit. Habits, habits habits. That is what we are trying to establish. Grandpa and Dad came home after we did our lunch pails. Before too long I had to drive Dad out to a golf course. He was playing 18 holes today, he played a 180, which is apparently his best. After dropping him off he called me when it was pick up time. Thankfully that coincided with the call that he received from the mechanic, his truck was done. as we pulled up, I suggested that after he paid for the repairs, that he move it and do a circle check. I noted 2 small dark puddles under the truck and was afraid they were oil leaks-he had the oil pan replaced. He went back in although he was pretty sure it was just dimples in the parking lot with a bit of rainwater in them, and he was right. I don't know the city as well as he did, so he suggested that I follow him back home again. Yeah right......he speeds, ALOT! And drying to keep up with him, when I needed to as I was in unfamiliar territory was challenging. I was so relieved to get back home again, to his house. After he got back home, showered and changed, he went out to get his wife from work. A bad storm rolled in during that time, and those cute little 4-year olds do not like storms, especially the thunder. But......we got alot of wind. We heard a loud knock on the garden door at one point, only to look and see the patio umbrella got some air and came crashing down, upside down, and hitting the garden door. So, I moved the girls as far as I could from the windows and we discussed which was more dangerous, loud thunder, lightening, wind or rain. I think that they will sleep very well if they only hear thunder going forward.
