National Hummingbird Day

The first Saturday of September is annually National Hummingbird Day. There are 300 species of this magnificent bird but in some areas of the country they are becoming endangered.
So what can we do to help them? You can hang nectar containers in your yard. Put it high enough to make it safe from predators. The nectar is easily made from a 4 to 1 ratio of water to white sugar. Be sure not to use syrup because it is not good for the bird.
Another way to help these lovely birds and bring them to your yard is to plant flowers that they like.

Oh, how nice that you have seen some. I usually see them flying around my window but not this year. Too hot I think.

Same here, I did not know there was a National Hummingbird Day either. They really are fascinating little birds.

We don't have hummingbirds in my country but I'd love to see a real one. I got one tattooed on my back because I came to know that it's my spirit animal.

That is interesting! A hummingbird tattoo sounds beautiful, especially with the meaning behind it. Hopefully you get the chance to see a real one someday.

We don't have any flowers a hummingbird would like. The last time we had hummingbird feeders out, local cats kept bothering them so I took them down.

i think this is the only animal that can fly backwards. i saw them a long time ago, at the countryside. in big city, i rarely see them.

I have never seen a hummingbird in person, but they really are beautiful little birds. I like the idea of planting flowers to attract them too. It must be lovely watching them visit your garden.
