Labor Day: Water Company Is Working

I hope you are all having a nice and relaxing Labor Day and a day off of work, if you do work.
We woke up to no water today. My husband asked if I paid the bill. I just said, "REALLY??" We had 3 busted main lines last week in our little town, the last one on Saturday, and he asks that question?
He wanted to call the office so he did. He got the recording that just told him that they were closed today for Labor Day.
I looked on the county community page on Facebook and saw that someone had commented about the water being out today. Another commented that they were off to pick up bottled water and does anyone else need any?
I did make a post and say that it would be nice if the water company would put a message on their answering machine to let customers know that yes, there is a busted line and we are currently working to repair it-- or a post on the community page. At least we would have an idea of what is going on. There were a couple of other posts that were not so nice. And another that voiced displeasure for all of the posts that they are working on it and ya'll should not be complaining.
I wasn't complaining, but I would like to know if this is a minor deal, a big deal or what? I don't want to be wondering when tomorrow morning I still do not have running water. They should keep their customers informed. Right?
Do you think this is an unreasonable thing to ask of the water company?

I can't remember but one time the city shutting off our water for a length of time. It was a few years ago. We did have a warning that they might have to shut it off as they had several huge breaks at once from prolonged bitter weather, split lines etc. But yes, I have to agree with you, they should keep in contact with their customers. Not everyone is going to head to Facebook to find out, either.

@MarieCoyle I had no clue they had it. Was told online that it was fairly new. They should put a note on the bills!! Oh no, that's TOO much trouble!! Grrrr!

We do get text alerts about such things. I can’t remember if we had to sign up for that but I think we did.

To make it more complicated the news did not come from the water company at all . It was from someone that had gotten the information first hand and passed it on. So who really knows if that was the truth or now. You never can trust people these days. I'd rather see an official post direct from the business.

That kind of post - the one saying people shouldn't be complaining - would MAKE me complain! Long and loudly!
I agree, they should keep their customers informed.

They could easily set up text notifications too as some people don't use FB. LaRue community likes to post everything on their page only and many people miss stuff because of that.

Around 6 pm today, I found out they do have a text notifying system. However, we did not get a notification via text either. I'll call them tomorrow after I get hubby back in doctor's office and see why our number is not in the system. Numbers did not change and they have them posted on our account.

This was with water, not power. But the electricity was off today when we got home from the doctor's office! They leave messages on their lines and we know how many are out of power and if crews are working with estimated time or no time estimated at this time.
