I am doing a general cleaning of the house today as my in-laws are visiting for 5 days. They are coming this Thursday. I am not going to lie everytime they visit I get really stressed because of the language barrier and because they really fight for the littlest of things. But they are important to my husband and they are family so I always exercise patience and always try my best when they are here.
On the upside every visit they do is an improvement from the previous one. And my husband took annual leave this time around instead of leaving me alone with his family. To show them around without him with my Google translator. I also have been doing my Italian Duolingo religiously. I am hoping they will enjoy this year’s visit.

Good for you for staying patient, family visits like that can be so draining specially with the language gap. Its nice your husband took leave this time so you dont have to handle it all alone. Hope the Duolingo pays off and this visit goes smoother than the last.

It always makes me nervous when they come. They always end up fighting about things I don’t think worth fighting for like one time my MIL and FIL was fighting just over a chocolate strawberry
I am a pacifist, I feel like fighting should at least be for something more heavy than these

I think it was a bit much of your husband to dump his family on you in the past while he went to work. I wouldn’t be happy with that at all, especially with the language difficulties. Are they living with you or in a hotel? As he is taking leave this time, it should be a lot easier. You are an angel.

Yeah it was a disaster. I remembered he had the weekend off and one day with them arguing and bickering and he was almost in tears. I told him I had to endure that all week feigning ignorance even though my EQ can clearly pick up the foul moods. I scolded him after that and told him it was not fair and a good son/daughter should take off days when their family comes for a visit. I think he’s learned.
They are living with us. I am preparing the house so it can be up to standards.

Having your husband home for the 5 days his family is visiting should hopefully be less stressful for you.

I can believe how stressful this is for you and I'm glad your husband is taking time off to help entertain them. Having patience will go a long way towards a good visit and hopefully they'll appreciate the efforts you are making to learn Italian. I hope they're trying to learn your language too.
