Should I get rid of it or shouldn't I?

I got a notice from one of my credit cards the other day in that since I haven't used it over a year in January it will go inactive, but I can stop this from happening if I just make one purchase. There is a cafe owned by this bank where the coffee with the card is half price. I could pay it off the next month..and thus keep my card active, but I really feel like I have too many cards now. There is only one I actually use at this time. However, having all this credit available, and not using it keeps my credit score quite high which is very beneficial to the score. However, if I did let this one lapse, I might be able to find another interesting one if I so desired. What would you do?

I only have one card and have excellent credit. That's all you need.

Unless you run into something where you need a major amount of money. You don't want to max out your only card.

@wolfgirl569 Right, but medical bills can crop up, and they can take all your cash and credit very easily. Many people who get into financial trouble have medical debt.

@snowy22315 I have never maxed it out except buying my truck. And I already had the money in the bank for that. I feel I don't need anything that bad.

@snowy22315 - I did let go a credit card a few weeks ago. I have one credit card and one debit car now and I think it's enough.

I just have one card, and that’s all I want. I once had department store credit card too, but let it lapse, and though my credit score went down a few points, in about six months it was higher than ever, and I hadn’t taken out a new one.

Yeah, maybe..except I have other cards I am not using as well. The other side of the coin is someone getting a hold of it and using it. It might be smarter to keep the cards at a manageable level.

The cards I have allow me to put them on hold until I need them which prevents anyone from getting into them, it's also my choice so if I need one I can reactivate it @snowy22315

I'd probably just grab that half price coffee ngl, way easier than closing the card and dealing with the credit score dip. You already said it yourself, all that unused credit is doing you favors. Save the "let it lapse" decision for a card that isn't handing you free coffee lol

I have 2 credit cards, one that is a cash back card and the other a low interest card in case I have a large expense that I wouldn't be able to pay off all at once. I am good with that.
Should I need something more I have a line of credit, which is a fraction of any credit card, and a pretty decent amount of money.
