Doctor Appointment

We just got home from seeing the Neurologist this morning. She informed me that I'm a good candidate for the shunt and drain hose. We were told that the actual surgeon was there today but he was busy so we talked with his nurse, instead. She told us that my case is fairly urgent so they will get me an appointment as quickly as they can. We're waiting for them to set an appointment time and date now.
The nurse showed us pictures of a shunt and hose and explained how the surgery should go. She did tell us that I should only be in the hospital again for ONE day. The surgery will be done in the afternoon.
Somebody at the hospital will shave a patch of hair above/behind my ear for the shunt. The hose will be worked into/under my scalp and down my neck with an opening draining into my abdominal cavity. She said normally, the only complaint they get is from where the tube is worked under the skin and it may be sore for several days.
We do have to watch for infection at the entry site and it's possible for the tube to rub a hole in my skin. IF that happens, they'll need to remove the hose and try again.
I'll post another discussion when we find out more.

Thank you. They don't seem to be dragging their feet this time.

I am so glad they are doing the surgery, but good lord, they want to mess with your body like that and only be in the hospital for one day? That sounds crazy when the other procedure had you in the hospital for several days.
You’re probably relieved though that it will just be a day, huh.

The neurologist said I'd have checkups with her every couple of weeks for a while to make sure everything was going well. (She also told Pretty that if she noticed me having any problems, she was to call immediately. )
Yes, I'm glad I don't have to be stuck in the hospital for an extended stay!

I don't know. It seems like a simple enough procedure to me. I will, thank you.

Thank you. I hope I'm doing as well after the shunt is installed as I did after the trial period. I felt like I did before I started having problems.

The neurologist said it just happens with some people after they reach 60.
All I can tell you is if you start having trouble remembering some words you use all the time, if you start walking with a wider than normal for you stance, if you start tripping and falling more than normal for you, you might ask your doctor to see if you've got hydrocephalus. I didn't realize anything was wrong (I thought I was just getting older.) until I fell and hit my head on my dresser. The x-ray showed possible problems.
