You get gallstones! And you get gallstones! Gallstones for everyone!

Well obviously I am using Oprah's catchline when she used to give out her favorite Christmas items to an audience. Around here though it is my mother and brother-in-law. They both have been having gallstone attacks. I am the Queen of gallstone attacks so my sister texted me to ask what they were like because my BIL thought he was having a heart attack. I was like "no wrong side and it should stop within an hour or so". Sure enough it did. I told her to make him go to a surgeon and set up surgery. If you have an attack once then they are just going to continue. Weird coincidence that both my mother and BIL are dealing with the same issue at the same time. I'm here for advice of course but I'm always so out of the loop that I won't hear from them until like Christmas.

My sister and mother had them, and, of course, had to have their gallbladder removed. My sister was nuts in her recovery. They said no greasy food for awhile, and the day after she got home she ordered pizza. It made her so sick.

That's a misconception. Once the GB and stones are out--you can eat whatever you want. It was the greasy food that caused the attacks. In my experience it took my GI system about a year to finally normalize as the bile now just flows directly and continuously into my system. Lets just say I was glad that the bathroom at work was right across the hall! Eventually it all normalized and I can eat anything I want now without worrying about a gallstone attack.

@NJChicaa Oh, that’s interesting. It was like 25 years ago so maybe they still said that back then. They said to give it a week before eating anything greasy. She must have been going to get sick anyway.

Oprah hands out gall stones at Christmas? How strange! I’ve never had them, so can’t help other than checking with AI. I imagine they are quite painful, so I hope you get some relief soon

My mother used to have it, too. Luckily, she did not undergo the knife. She took some medications at that time.

Don’t look at me, I don’t have them. I don’t have a gallbladder. She’d have to give me one of those first. The thing I flubbed on was that I didn’t have gallstones, but my gallbladder wasn’t functioning. Just at 19% of normal. So when I tried to eat something greasy after the surgery and recovery were over I had the same pain I’d always had.

I don't know anyone who has had gallstones. The neurologist's nurse did warn me that if I have gallbladder problems after they install the hose into my abdomen, they'd have to take the hose out and put it back in after whatever surgery I have to have. I'd rather not have any type of abdominal surgery. I already had my appendix out when I was in 4th grade. That was bad enough.

Just now
I got my gallbladder out in Latvia and have been fine since. All the best to them.

I've not had gallstones, thank goodness. I know from other family and friends they are very painful. My son had his gallbladder removed long ago due to them. I hope your mother and your BIL get theirs taken care of.
