Found in the road!

Yesterday, I had to go to the pharmacy. On the way home, I slowed for the stop sign close to my own area and there was a phone in the road, in the crosswalk. No one around, so I stopped to pick it up.
Of course it was locked so I had no idea who’s phone it was. I took it to the local police station. I hope if I ever lose my own phone, whoever finds it turns it in.
I found it surprising that the phone hadn’t been run over!

Oh, so do I. Phones carry so much information, of course they can be locked or disabled from a distance, I know I have the “Find My Phone “ thing.

Was it a nice phone? I wonder how it got there? I wonder if you could post a found notice somewhere, like in Nextdoor or somethingm

It was just like mine, I think, and yes mine was new last Christmas. The officer I talked to said people constantly find things in the road that others have put on the roof of their car when they were loading something. I did that once many years ago with a package. Easy to do when you’re tired and distracted.

I would like to hope that most people would do that. There is a police station about a half mile from where I was.

I know what you mean since one of my biggest fear is losing my wallet when it falls out of my pocket.

@MarieCoyle I usually place the wallet in the deep pocket but when I get inside of a van I have had one occasion where it fell out since I got careless.

George, did you know that it’s recommended men should carry their wallet tucked deep in a front pocket? It is harder to lose and way harder to steal!

It is actually recommended by law enforcement not to get out of your vehicle and pick up something valuable that you see. Evidently, some people use this method to rob people or take their car when they stop. I thought of that, but there was really no place to hide there so I stopped.

That is a solid wish. When things are in the road, if people see them they try to make a point not to run over them to avoid damaging their tires, is what I think may have happened.

Someone will be panicking over their lost phone.
I hope they think to go to the police station to ask about it.
