A Snafu

Well, this is unfortunate. Lately, my stepmom has had a rash of UTIs. She had one last year we thought was a stroke. She got dizzy, started losing vision in one eye…a visit to the ER showed it to be a UTI. I posted about that in Mylot, and I had a Mylotter tell me those weren’t symptoms of a UTI. Do a little research lady! As we get older, the symptoms change! She had one last week, and these antibiotics aren’t working since she’s still dizzy. My dad is taking her to the doctor in the morning, for hopefully more help. She’s not in pain, but we’re hoping she’s not dizzy on the trip. She drinks cranberry juice like crazy, drinks water like crazy…we don’t know what the deal is.

Oh wow…and right before the big trip. I’m sure glad he is taking her in the morning. I hope it isn’t serious.

The doctor said some older women just get them more often as they age, but it’s ridiculous.

@AmbiePam I do know that UTI's can present with stroke symptoms in some people, that happened to my own stepmother years ago.

Me too. She and my dad only plan to get off the boat once, at the last port, but she still needs to navigate the airport.

@AmbiePam - It is surely a problem for her if she needs to rush to the toilet, or even worse if she feels dizzy.

I’m hoping they have a better antibiotic available for her.

I can’t tell if you’re pulling my leg, but since there really might be someone who doesn’t know: urinary tract infection.

@JohnRoberts I wrongly assumed everyone had had one in their life. And also, forgive me. I automatically assumed you were like The Horse. He routinely pretends he doesn’t know something for whatever reasons he comes up with. You’re far more dignified to do that to a person.

@AmbiePam Seriously, I didn't know. I don't pay attention to medical jargon.

Sorry to hear that. I am sure going through all of that is very frustrating. Hopefully she'll feel better soon and not get dizzy on the trip.

I just can’t imagine why the antibiotics aren’t working.

@AmbiePam That's a good question, not sure why they wouldn't.

I pray she’s okay and can make the trip. My sis-in-law passed out and it was a UTI. Getting old ain’t for sissies!

Aw that's rough, hope she feels better soon. It's true that UTI symptoms look different when people get older, so you were right about that. Hope the doctor tomorrow finds something that works.
