Ladies, would you want a new baby if you were 52 years old?

I was scrolling news, and this was in the main news, not the celebrity stuff. I rarely even look at the hot mess of celebrity news, Kardashian junk, etc. But as a Mom, this really hit me.
Hillary Swank is having a baby in December, and she is 52 years old. Um....seriously? The article says she had twins at 48. Just think...when her new baby graduates from high school, she will be 70 years old. And, she is very high risk due to her age.
If you really wanted another baby at an advanced age, and you had the money, wouldn't it be safer to use a surrogate?
I just think this is insane.

I can't imagine having a baby at 52. It was hard enough in my late 20s and early 30s.

I suppose back in the days when there were really no forms of birth control (well, abstinence!) it happened more often than it does now. The difference being that people plan for this at the older age. I have to wonder if it's really fair to the child, to have an older parent who may or may not be able to keep up with the child, but a 52 year old of today has a lot of options, I guess.

I don’t think I would be healthy enough at that age and it’s too risky. And there’s always the surrogate.

@MarieCoyle Yes and I admire those celebrities who do mundane tasks.

I wouldn't want to have a baby at that age. I suppose it helps to have the money to hire the mundane things to be done--cooking. laundry, housework, etc. Most celebrities don't do their own home tasks.

I think some of them like their privacy so they do not hire people to come in and do a lot of things. I can understand that.

I wouldn't want to. A neighbor did around that age but not deliberately. She had her tubes cut and tied but one grew back together.

@MarieCoyle She almost had a nervous breakdown. I went to school with her middle son at that time. Then that child went to school with my oldest boy

It really would be a shock to find yourself expecting a child at that age, after you thought you were never going to be able to have any more.

Let's just say I would have been happy to have a baby at any age, I was unlucky twice, one being stillborn and one spontaneous and I am touchy about this subject,

Yes, I honestly do understand. I buried my firstborn, and lost two others. I am sorry if I touched a nerve for you, it was not intentional.

Having a baby under regular circumstances can be stressful. Maybe all will be well with her, but it just doesn’t seem very smart or safe to me.

My paternal grandmother had a baby at 42, and I thought that was pushing it. Of course, she had her baby naturally, while Hilary probably had help getting pregnant. I’m 45, and the thought of getting pregnant at my age would make me cry. I guess being rich and affording the best healthcare money could but makes it less daunting.

My paternal grandmother had my Dad at 43. She thought she was done and had two children in school, and then here came Dad. She thought she was in early menopause. Surprise!

Not my cup of tea..I sort of can't imagine having a teenager at my age, but everybody is different.

@mariecoyle That’s celebrity for you. They usually do something childish to get attention once their career starts to flag. As a gentleman I’d hate having more kids at 52 never mind what my wife might think of it.

I have a friend who was born when her mother turned 50. When friend was born, she had two married sisters who both had a baby, and a teenage brother. She was definitely a ''surprise'' baby and once her brother left home she was raised as an only child.
Giving birth is hard. I can't imagine it at 52.

@MarieCoyle I have heard similar stories where motherly instincts through adoption helps in conceiving own children through hormonal changes.

Yes, it is better to have them younger, but it's not always possible.
I have a friend I've known for years. She and her husband really wanted children, and they tried for a long time. They went to doctors, and were told by several of them that she couldn't have children. They adopted 6 children...and she got pregnant at 41. They were very concerned, with her being that age, but the baby boy was fine and weighed 10 pounds. So, they ended up with 7 children.

I read this and just shook my head. A woman that age is at great risk to have a child with issues.

I have to agree with you, most women with her income and of course her age, would have found a surrogate mother to carry the child.
