We've pulled out the hedge

When we moved here, there was a small hedge along our front wall. The gardeners were supposed to clip them which they did but then there was a period when the gardeners weren’t doing a very good job. Over time it’s got bedraggled and full of dry twigs and a few days ago we pulled out the bushes. I think there was about six of them. I’ve had two ficus bushes in pots on the other side of the house but now we’ve moved them to either side of the bedroom window where the hedge used to be. Now we’ve bought a third similar pot to put in the middle but we’ll plant something colourful in that. Hopefully the three pots will look nice and will be easy to maintain. The photo was taken several years ago. You can see the hedge. The two circles are still there but the groundcover you can see has now covered the rest of the garden.

That's illegal in Belgium. The municipality made me restore the plants I removed.

@JudyEv yes! Even on your property, any exterior changes require municipal permission, which is rarely granted for removing plants. I think because Australia is vast with a huge green landscape, they wouldn't care about removing front yard hedges.

Really? Well, how about that? We own the house and the land under the eaves is ours so I think we'll be okay. We can also state whether we want to do our own gardening or if we want the gardeners to do it.

It's the neighbour's vehicle and is a Toyota FJ Cruiser. When we had the caravan we had a Toyota Prado. We've since sold it to my BIL. Toyotas are popular here but are now being outsold by Chinese vehicles.

I bet that was a task to pull the hedge bushes out. I bet it looks much better though.

Pots are a smart move, way less work than a hedge that keeps getting messy. Two ficus on the sides with something colourful in the middle should look really nice. Would love to see a photo once it's all done.

Once it's sorted, I'll certainly post about it. I've bought a bright yellow gerbera to go in the pot.

Having options like that really are nice when you feel a need to change things up a bit.

It looks great. So clean and fresh, and you can see your home so clearly. I always find that hedges often outgrow the area that they are planted in and no longer suit that area. When we bought our home in the country, it had a large lot of an acre, but that first spring, my husband used my Dad's tractor and some chains to pull out the overgrown shrubbery that had been planted a decade earlier. We had so many compliments after we did that project.

Pots are so much easier to move and you can keep your area cleaner with less effort.

It’s a shame the gardeners didn’t do a good job. I’m sure it looks great now with your pots though.
