The One Dish My Grandmother Fixed That I hated

Yes, there actually was one. She was a great cook. It was a family ritual that we had Sunday dinner at grandma's. My uncle and his father would come and there would be probably about a dozen relatives. Grandma fixed all the fixings too. Main dish and lots of sides. One of her signature dishes was carrot salad. Yuck! I like fresh raisins right out of the box but these were cooked and pumped up. Then carrots were shredded and there was a thin sweet sauce added. Sorry Grandma's but it was awful. Did any of your family make dishes that you didn't like?

I hate fruit in my food. I like fruit but on its own.

Maybe that's it. And the raisins were just icky.

I do think this does not sound like a good combination although I think it is very nutritious. In my family, they used to make raw fish salad with vinegar and tomato and I have and never will be a fan.

I would try to eat little of it because I knew it was good for me.

@celticeagle yes I see those recipes and they are apparently really rich in collagen.

I never cooked my raisins for "black and gold" salad. I used mayo with a little lemon juice and sugar to dress it. Lots of foods I do not like. Too many I do like as well.

I was never keen on sago pudding. I didn't really like boiled mutton either.

funny but no, my grandpa taught my mom and my mom taught my brothers and me that we can't be picky eaters and that to understand whatever is made at the house is what we'll eat "its not a restaurant to say we can pick what we want our mom to cook." so we got used to it. there was a dish though only that my mom made an exception that if she cooks that, she'll cook me something else. my grandma made a certain dish, it was good and all but since i was a kid i had to obey her and eat when she'll do that dish. she made me get seconds to not waste the food until i to throw up and i got traumatized of that dish.

I was taught the same but still have independent ideas. I would put a little on my plate but couldn't say it was a good experience.

My mother also made carrot salad. I didn't like it either.

Really? You are the only person who seemed to have eaten it or knew what it is.

@celticeagle My mother mixed with mayo instead of sauce.
