The Walmart saga continues...

As I have said before, we lost our nearest grocery store due to inflation and I think, poor management. At any rate, unless I go into the city (which thankfully I do, frequently) if we need something I didn't plan on, Walmart is the only option. There are several surrounding small towns and villages close by that also rely on that Walmart, so it is a very busy place. Today I had to go there to get a prescription that CVS couldn't seem to get. I dreaded going but I kicked myself in the tail and off I went. I really wished I hadn't! It was in the 40's today, with a cold wind. There were 5 repair trucks lined up in front of Walmart, from Lanz, which is an HVAC company here (pricey, too) that does excellent repair work on heating and air conditioning. Anyway, I had to get the medicine so I parked and went inside. It was cold enough to hang meat in there! You could literally see your breath!! People were racing around, all moaning about how cold it was in there--come to find out, the AC was stuck in the ON position and it wouldn't turn off somehow, so they called out the big guns to fix it. Luckily, I had on a fleece shirt, jeans, and a fuzzy hoodie. One fellow next to me in the pharmacy looked at me and grinned and said, ''don't look at my legs, I know I am turning blue!'' he had on shorts. He said he hadn't realized how cold it was and he was freezing! That particular Walmart is the closest of four local Walmart stores. And of course, it's the one that always has strange, weird problems. I was SO glad to go home and ran the car heater on high on the way home. Brrrrr!

All Walmart's are crazy.. Kind of goes with the times I suppose. I do miss when they were open 24 hours, seems to be the best time they had the best employees and best customers.

My son said the same thing, he loved wondering around Walmart if he couldn't sleep back in the day. Ours did away with the 24 hour thing quite some time ago. I know that @TheRealMcCoy MJJR loved going to Walmart in the middle of the night and he misses that option.

@MarieCoyle I do not know why it worked, it just did, maybe it stressed people out a little less, they felt calm.

@crossbones27 Some people don't want to be around a lot of people, I think that helped them shop, to be in a less crowded space.

Winco came here a couple of years ago and the prices are lower. But they do not have half the stuff that Walmart has.

We have Walmart, Target, and another midwest chain store called Meijer, which is basically a classed-up Walmart. I don't think there are any Winco stores around here. But at least you have another option.

I’d rather take a beating than go to Walmart. It’s the only place I can get fat-free cheese (Kroger doesn’t carry it anymore). I much prefer Meijer.

@MarieCoyle — not to mention that their employees act like they want to be there.

I'm glad you were at least dressed with some warm clothing. It's horrible getting really cold.

Walmart is all too often the only game in town.

@MarieCoyle Yes, but Walmart prices are lower than mom and pop stores and that's fact. If you want affordability then you have to go with the lowest prices. Walmart employs more and pays more local taxes.

Yes, it is. And they moved in to many small communities in the 80’s and literally killed so many small businesses, who did not have the buying power that Walmart has. So many small towns suffered.

Oh boy...reminds me of the Dollar General out here. They are always having problems with their refrigeration. At least they haven't seemed to lose their heating or cooling though. Those dummies who insist on wearing shorts no matter what the weather looks ridiculous and deserve what they get. Cold weather is why God invented pants.

I admit to being an Amazon junkie but no to Walmart. Doordash sure rakes in the cash when we use them but it is what it is.

I don't really know anyone who loves to go to Walmart. I go sometimes because it's what we have right now and it's the closest since our other options have closed up shop. I have to confess I have never used DoorDash.

There is a "nice" Walmart around here but I haven't been there in years. I just do Instacart for the local grocery store.

The guy in shorts joking "dont look at my legs" in a freezing walmart is too funny... five repair trucks outside just to turn the AC off, smh. Glad you had a fuzzy hoodie on, that's clutch.

That Walmart is always cold inside. But today it was absolutely freezing! I was glad for my fuzzy coat. The cashiers were freezing, too!
