I am an alcoholic. memorial day weekend is Minnesotas annual A.A. Convention called Gopher Stae Round Up. I am not going due to time restraints, funds, and the fact I have to be around for dad. Memorial Weekend was always a huge drinking partying weekend for me also. Now being here and nopt at the Gopher State is starting to get to me. I just returned from an A.A. meeting and yet don't feel quite right. Not the drinking urge or anything like thAT JUST LOST AS FAR AS THE WEEKEND. aLL MY USUAL ACTIVITIES ARE ON HOLD DUE TO CASH, GAS, AND DAD. nOT BLAMING HIM NOR ANYONE IN PARTICULAR. jUST LOST IS ALL. eVEN BEING HERE SEEMS TO BORE ME AS OF LATE. Anyhow just wanted to relate this as I had nothing else on my mind that would go here. Thanks for listening and have a great long weekend all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ p.s. sorry bout the caps

Are we suffering from ennui? I know how you feel though...I love keeping active, busy...and I have a lot of things to keep me and get me going...my writing,my photo work, my art, etc..but there are just some days, even with all that I'm bored out of my mind and nothing will interest me....I will feel lost too....I know you're a wonderful photographer...even if you can't be too far away from your dad, why not just putter around and take some photos?? Or go out an tend your garden--keep busy...sometimes there are days, like I said I just don't want to do anything, but I force myself...cause sometimes by keeping busy even if you do it at a slower pace will give you a sense of accomplishing something, but then I've always been the overachiever type Personally for me, today was a very frustrating day----some weeks ago, electricians came into each of our apartments to do re-wiring--they left these hideous deep holes in the walls that needed to be re=plastered...So Thursday,I was getting dressed to go out, and bingo, out of the blue the plasterer wanted to come in to do the work..uh, sorry I had an appointment that day and the next...So today, Saturday, they were to come and not only do my apartment but a few others...WEll my dumb-a** super told me repeatedly on Thursday and Friday that the plasterer would be here on Saturday around 8 in the morning--yikes----I had a long week, had to be up very early...well, for me..all week long, I was looking forward to the luxury of sleeping late today, but couldn't since these guys were to be here--so I had to go to bed early again..to be up by around 6:30 a.m.--and I waited...and waited..and waited...I saw the super around 11:00...he said that the plasterer was sick and wasn't coming....yikes I could've slept late if I had known that --I hate a day wasted like that just waiting around Sorry for my ranting here...know it's a bit off topic from your discussion here...but you're suffering from ennui, and me with angst...LOL

Very clever there with the wording. I had to look up "ENNUI'. Very clever way to say boredom. Hahahaha. You must have looked that one up to place it here huh? LOL I took about 80 photos of my garden and trees and the old neighbors visited so I got a lot of shots of their daughters and son. I also did some replanting. And guess what? I still suffer from ennui. Hahahaha! Sorry about your wasted day waiting for the plastere or super. Have a great day/evening. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well Bob your not alone - I'm in the same boat, no money to go do anything and all of my old 'friends' are partying and getting drunk (I learned this afternoon from my niece that my two sisters started last night). I gave up drinking several years ago and don't miss it one single bit except for the fact that most of my family still has the habit and I don't seem to be much fun to have around. Oh well, here I am on myLot on Saturday night, I'll go to bed early and not have a horrid hangover tomorrow.

Like you I am stuck in the house. I am disabled and have trouble getting around. What's worse, my pocket book is getting bigger and bigger bites taken out of it every month. Fun seems unfordable. These gas prices are absolute murder. Not only do we suffer pain at the pump, tossing hard earned dollar after hard earned dollar into the gas tank that never seems to stay full, these gas prices are going to other items we need for our cook outs. Beef is up 5% from last year. Chicken is almost 8%. The connection is the distribution chain. (Beef is so expensive I can't afford to eat it on a regular basis. I must content myself with ground turkey.) All food comes to our supermarkets from their farms and processing centers via planes and trucks. Each of those transport vehicles has to pump some kind of petrol product into the tanks to move and to keep the product refrigerated fresh. Personally, I'd welcome more trains and fewer planes in this supply chain, and by George, freeze the meat items. It takes less gas to move a train than a plane. In the past, there were steam engine trains. America's rail system is one of the most neglected and underused in the world. Yes there is Am Track (SP) but that is a drop in the transportation bucket. Trains would clear congestion off our roads and pollution from our skies.

yES THE GAS REALLY SUCKS. i TOOK A TRIP FOR 36 HOURS TO A NEARBY CASINO AND THE COST OF GAS KILLED MY GAMBLING. hahahaha

Here casinos provide free mini-bus rides to get gamblers to the casino. But I don't call that a good deal. That's taking 'hostages' with live wallets!

Grandpa Bob I know excally how you feel. I am not a drinker, I have been house bound due to dizzy spells and not being able to drive for quite a while. I have been depressed and edgy and upset. My poor hubby cannot seem to do anything right. I am not a person who yells, screams or chews him out but these least three weeks I have done that more then I even have in the last 29 years of marriage. My twin has just been diagnosis with MS and she is in a bad way, she is in Idaho and my older sister is in Washington state. I do not have money to go see them. But my older sister boought me a flight ticket and is flying me up to Seattle and we are driving from Federal Way Washington to Shashone Idaho to spend time with my twin. I think I will feel better getting out of this house, and being with my sisters. It has been a year and a half since the three of us have been together. I think we all need it. I hope I will be better when I get home. I feel better knowing I am going to see my sisters. Or I am feeling better because I have been out swimming in the pool and playing in the yard. Good luck to you.

Few things annoy me more than not being able to do something I want to do because I don't have the money to do it. There's also nothing worse than being bored and I know what you mean about myLot at the moment because I'm struggling to muster enthusiasm for it right now. It's not like I need a break because I've hardly been on here the last week. It's just boring me, I can hardly find anything I want to respond to and I can't think of anything to start a discussion about. It's probably just a phase I guess. Anyway I hope you have a good weekend despite it all.

I heard of this Memorial weekend from the discussions of others. WE don't have that here. I know that feeling of being "lost". It's kind of like having no aim or focus I suppose. It doesn't happen to me much now, as I am so busy with Bianca's swimming & being treasuer of weight watchers (and I avoid doing it). Per haps if you get out in your garden, as that seems to work for you. There's not much I can suggest, as I can see that My Lot gets a bit frustrating at times. Good Luck.

Don't worry Grandpa Bob because you are not the only one. There are days that I feel bored to and too lazy to check mylot and think of any discussions. There are days that I just don't post anything because I am too lazy and a bit bored to think of any discussion. I guess, all of us do have our 'off days' that are not so productive days. Sometimes I just spend the whole day watching movies at home or reading a new book.

Good job on not drinking. Maybe today is a day to get out your twelve step book and go back through it. Making sure you didn't miss or forget about a step. It will be a reminder of how far you have come since your days when this weekend was spent not being sober. Write down all the good you have done since you started on your journey. Celebrate your accomplishments!! By doing this you start a new tradition for this weekend. I wish you the best of luck!!

Stick with it, you have done so well. At least you have still mangaed to come on here. I don't know what to suggest for the boredom. I enjoy being online but it sounds like that is not enough for you at the moment. It sounds like you need a new hobby. The weekend will soon pass so good luck getting through it.

don't worry about the caps it's all good. I used to drink aot I was deeply miserable I would get drunk and act really stupid and i would get really sick at times would have black outs it wasn't good I cut back alot by myself it runs in my family drinking I just want to settle down now. I'm over what I used to do I could polish off over fiveteen drinks to myself I was bad I admit it I think alot of stuff in my life wasn't going the way I wanted it's called depression I've had it for over 1 years I got itno drinking at parties which seemed to be alot in thoughs days my group that partied like that split up made it easy for me to cut back on the things I wanted to change so I did I want so many things to get married and have a nine month vacation from my period that's if I can have kids. I know how you feel my aunt goes to meetings I'm not ready for cold turkey just yet ,but I can last a while I have only a few now when I do drink I got much better. I wanted to change

I'm sure that suc** for you and I'm giving you a virtual pat on the back just for being able to talk about it. Breaking old habits is one of the hardest thing in the world to do especially when even though we enjoyed them they weren't good for us. I'm trying to break a lot of those old "used to do" and "used to be" habits and having a rough time of it. Luckily for me I'll just end up crying and crying is an old friend to me and makes me feel better. Easy for me I'm a girl..ha ha....I have all the faith in the world that your going to get through this weekend. If nothing else just drop by to look at some of the so informative discussions here and don't think of them as boring but a great way of wasting some time. We're with you in spirit!

I know how you feel too, Grandpa Bob, re: the boredom, and restlessness. I have a good friend who often says, "Just because you are in the doldrums, doesn't mean that something isn't about to happen, to change things for the better." I trust this is the case for you (and myself as well). Take Care.:)
