I found a new product in the grocery store that is convenient, and healthy.

It is called Birdseye (that is the brand) pepper stir fry. It is a combination of red, yellow, and green frozen peppers with white onions. We put it on our home made pizzas, I put it in scrambled eggs. Obviously it is good for stir fry, and other things like casseroles. Peppers are often expensive, especially the red and yellow, and this is so easy, it makes it convenient to add healthy foods to my meals.

Hello gerty. I don't think this Birdseye pepper stir fry is available in my country. It sounds like a great condiment for your food. I am using organic pepper. Though it is a little expensive compared to the regular ones. Black pepper is more commonly used here instead of the red and yellow pepper. I can check the Birdseye brand at my favorite local health store. They have a wide selection of organic products there.

Although I am lucky to have a vegetable vendor in my area who sells all kind of pepper and onions, shallots whatever you want by the bag, for $1.00, it's fun to remember good old Birdseye, frozen foods, and the convenience they used to bring to my cooking! :) By the way bell peppers in the supermarket are about $4.99 a pound for the red and yellow ones, that's right, it's more expensive that gasoline! :) Birdseye food trivia: http://www.foodreference.com/html/fbirdseyeclarence.html

Fresh, of course, is the best, if you bring them home and use them. They have not frozen poblano peppers yet,and I have yet to find frozen jalapeños. The price for these was good, less than $1.50 per pound, and since they are easy to use, I am less likely to give in when my husband wants me to go out to eat. The food we fix at home really tastes better, eating out is just easier.

Great. And no dishes to wash afterward, either.

I remember the brand name Birdseye from when I lived in England. Their peas were especially delicious. I don´t know if I can find the product you described here, but I´ll give it a try. I prefer fresh peppers, luckily they are not too expensive where I live yet, but washing them and cutting them up is time consuming. The frozen version is a good thing if you want to have a quick and healthy meal. Thanks for this great tip. Dana

Wow, what a great idea that is, I am going to have to try that, usually I sit there for 30 minutes or so chopping everything up and that is not very often due to time constraints, thanks for the heads up!!

I would LOVE that. I love peppers & onions. We have the Birdseye brand, so maybe it is here too. If not, I will ask the supermarket to get them in. My husband can't have peppers or onions, but I try to be flexible with my meals, so that I can eat the foods I love. Peppers are good for diets, as they increaee your metabolism. Thank you for telling us about this.

Yes, the colored peppers are very exspensive, I planted some this year and just this evening picked the first one, of course it was a miniature compared to the ones in the store. I will have to look for this pepper stir fry blend, we love peppers in our cooking. Thanks for the tip :)

I'm familiar with that brand and their pepper stir fry! It's great stuff, isn't it?! I like getting the bags of the frozen veggie mixes like that better than getting it in a can, or buying it fresh. When you open a can, you're committed to using the whole can right now, and with the frozen you can just take out a handful, or however much you need. When you're only cooking for one or two, it's cheaper and easier in the long run. They say fresh frozen veggies are just as nutritious as the fresh, and better than the canned because there's no added salt. The pepper stir fry is one of my favorites!

I love peppers, but they don't agree with me. Occasionally I will use them in my cooking and pay the price for it later on. They are very good for you.

hey gert...do you have an aldis by you? It's a discount food store, cheaper than Jewel. I find the peppers are cheaper, and they often come 3 in a package. It's the same if you have a food4less....the peppers are cheaper. I just thought I'd add my 2 cents, so if you did have these stores by you...you could check them out.

Both of the closest Aldi's stores are 30 miles away. But you can bet, when I go to stock up, I buy peppers.

What a wonderful idea, adding frozen, chopped, peppers and onions. You could add these things to just about anything that would be well served with peppers. The work of chopping them has already been done, and no crying when you peel and chop all the onions that are needed for whatever you are using this for. I wonder if this stuff would work in a good salad, if you were to let this stuff thaw, and use it that way, or if it would just become mush. This might not be a very good idea, but I'm going to leave it in here, just in case anyone has any ideas I could use this stuff for. Thank you for the heads-up on such a great new product. I'm always ready to try new stuff, especially if it makes my cooking easier or more convenient. Does anyone else have any suggestions to use this stuff for?

We get them fresh here, but they are very expensive, and I find that when I buy them fresh they don't last long, so I always end up throwing half of it away! sigh ! I will be on the look out here in our supermarket, but I very much doubt it, because this is Africa! I'm always looking out for healthy food because my hubby is a diabetic type 2.
