Are you cheap?

I am. And I have always been called so. I used to mind it when I was younger but then I came to accept this as a fact. What can I say? If the shoe fits, wear it, right?:P I value my money and I spend it wisely. I do not buy expensive clothes of things. I make do with what I have and I always think twice or thrice when having to buy something. My credit card charges are at a minimum and I can pay it anytime with no difficulty. Some people have the nerve to tell me that I am cheap and I should spend more of my money. I hate this because I see them living from paycheck to paycheck and yet they buy branded clothes and high end cellphones. They are way in over their heads in debt and sometimes run to me for a loan. The nerve! And still they tell me that I should enjoy the fruits of my earnings while I am still single. I get dumbfounded by this kind of people.

Nope. I prefer to think of it as frugal. At any rate, it is hard to notice with me, because I receive a lot of stuff as gifts. People mostly just think I don't like shopping. I'll buy expensive things if they will last longer or be significantly more comfortable. Otherwise, it's generic brand stuff for me.

I'm with you cutepenguin, frugal is my middle name. Sometimes generic seems to work better for me than higher priced stuff, like generic ibuprofen works better and faster on my headaches than Tylenol. I don't like spending money, plain and simple. If I don't need it, I don't buy it.

I agree. I do buy some expensive stuff when I know they are worth their price. But it's not often. Thanks for sharing.

not at all... you have the right to spend your money anyway you like and you can only buy what you can afford... i spend my money just like you because i know how hard it is to earn money... i never want to spend it unnecessarily... don't listen to what other people say about you... as long as you are doing the right thing and you are happy, they can say whatever they want... at least we are not in debt like them... :-)

I'm cheap to a point. If something isn't in the price range I think it should be, I wait for it to go on sale or find it elsewhere for a price that I'm willing to pay. I tend to find bargains. There are times that I spend money on something that I could do without, but I try to tell myself that I deserve a treat now and then. I end up feeling guilty when I spend money irresponsibly.

That does happen to me too, but only rarely. But then, we really should buy something for ourselves too!

I think the people who lives cheap have a better life. They are more contented. I am cheap to a certain extent. I would not buy designer clothing. The selection at Target is just fine. I unfortunately needs to improve on my savings.

I do think so too. Because I feel contented with what I have, I don't have to compete with other people who have more things.

As someone else said, I prefer to call it frugal, but whatever it is, I am. Wastefulness is a sign of immaturity, in my opinion. Why not get the most out of your money? If you're like me, you enjoy that more than you enjoy blowing it, so you really are enjoying he fruits of your earning and will continue to do so.

In that case, I am also cheap. Though there are times that I really go for quality and expensive clothing. I don't really consider you cheap. I consider you more educated in managing your resources such as money. People like you wouldn't end up penniless or broke. Keep it up and don't let those kind of people affect you. People who saves actually help the economy because their money become investments in the long run. When you have enough saving, do try to invest it in equity or bonds so that it would have high earnings.

I spend the money for what I need really. i dont think that is cheap or it is applicable to you also. Its very much right to think in your way.In my opinion you have a very good quality or feature and many people cant do this. When you think inbroader sense you can see that if all of us think in this way there may be no poverty in the world........what I used to say from childhood is cut your coat according to your cloth....right? I dont like to spend money without any calulation but sometime I spend more than required but one thing is for sure if I do that that is always for buying gift for anybody else, not for me.

I don't consider myself cheap. The word frugal sounds much better to me. Since I live on a small fixed income I have to be careful where and how I spend every penny. Would you believe people still come to me for loans?

I am much like you. The idea of over paying for something makes me sick. I am especially irritated by those people out there who will look down on someone because they spend less on thier things even if they have things equally as nice as those of the over-spender. I know a few people that just drive me nuts because they seem to feel that they are too good for a sale or a coupon and would rather over spend and then complain about how much something cost then even look at something on a clearance rack. My favorite thing to do is bargain shop, I have learned many tricks to save lots of money and still have nice stuff. You can get brand name clothing at second hand stores if you are willing to put in the time looking through everything and you can have nice new things if you collect coupons and wait for sales. I think it's funny when those kinds of people ask you what you paid for something nice and you tell them and they get this funny jealsou angry look on thier faces for a second.

Yes, I've experienced that. I bought this skirt for the cheapest price in a second hand store and my officemates then were jealous of it. It kind of puts a smile in the face to show them that something does not have to cost an arm and a leg to be pretty.

Me too. I think calling 'cheap' is not appropriate.. your just wise and being frugal in spending out your money. And you're just being practical. I buy clothes in 'ukay-ukay' and im not ashamed of it. Sometimes, my co-workers appreciates my clothes not knowing that i just bought it from an 'ukay-ukay'. I also don't buy many clothes or shoes.. i just buy what i need. i'm not into luxuries. Instead of buying these luxuries, i'll just save it or spend it inot other things valuable.

cheap or frugal? that is the question. me, I can't keep a dollar in my pocket. Three sons will do that to you. They always need something. And we aren't that well off enough to give them whatever they want so when i do have a few extra bucks I like to spend it on them. As far as buying for myself, I am probably the cheapest one around. I don't like to shop for me and so as a result, the flipflops i am wearing today are over three years old

LOL! I do have some really old stuff but are still usable with me. I do not really throw away stuff that can still be used even if they are really 'old'. I have this officemate who considers stuff 'old' when they are a month old. I just can't help but roll my eyes.

I am kind of like that, I only buy what I know I need. Most of the times, I spend more on foods, rather than spending it on clothes or other accessories. Because I know that I don't need most of it, as long as I have no problems with it all. I always try not to mind people who judge a person according to what they just see in them, maybe it's already on their nature or maybe the way of their up-bringing!;)

I have no money to speak of. I get by on a day to day basis, bit if I did, I would set some aside for retirement, children, grandkids, and charities. Other then that I would spend, spend, spend cause you might as well have fun while you can. You can't take it with you!

I think I share the same with you. I am not expensive. I hate to buy things that cost much. It is not worth it if the cheap one is perfect. I love to buy things on sale. They are still very good in quality. I don't care about people saying things like that to me, because I never tell them the cheap things I buy so as not to have them say things like that to me, which I don't like to hear. Ignore them, friend. Go your own way.

I am not cheap.I tend to buy the best. You need to always dream big in life. The bigger you dream the bigger the things that come your way.Not that you should spend your money carelessly, but you need to get the best for yourself. You never know what can happen tomorrow. What if you die tomorrow. And remember that good looks counts a lot in the society of today.Your outward appearance tells a lot about you.And looking good can also mean good business.Try and take good time and treat yourself nice now that you are alive. My thinking about life changed when i lost my uncle 6th of This month. He was just 36 and he did not accomplish most of his heart desires and it hurts me so bad.So we need to live everyday of our lives as if it is the last one .Everything in life is vanity.Remember you wont take your money to heaven when you die.

just like what the other members said, frugal is more like it.. anyway, it is really important for people to give value to their money. it is important that our income should go to more important things. i always teach my students (taking up business courses and other business-related courses) that income should be allocated to three things: EXPENSES, which as much as possible should be the basic needs and if there is something that they really want to buy or spend on that is not considered a basic need, they may do so but that should be done when they only have enough to spend; INVESTMENTS, which should be good ones so that when they earn from their investments, they could augment their allowance; and SAVINGS, which should really be considered because they should always set aside a certain amount of money "for the rainy days".
