What is the vision of animals and other nature beings in your beliefs/philosophy? Do animals have an ego? Do they have a soul? Do they have free will? Can they love? What are they for in our world? What is our relation with them? What is their relation with God (Gods, Godesses and whatever)?

Hi Missak, I have had pets all my life and their energetic essence is something that few can deny. Think about the word dog...spell it backwards...it is God. Their capacity to love unconditonally and be there, sharing the journey to me shows attributes than many humans do not have. Cats were worshiped in Eygpt for their knowing, mystical qualities. Aboriginal teachings always speak of the amazing qualties all animals possess. To this day many continue to show respect for the essence of the animal if it has to be killed. Animals also love. They also grieve when one of their companions leave. If anyone doubts this check out Pyewackets site. In regard to what happens after they die. Ask any animal lover and they cannot imagine an afterlife an any without some on-going connection to the animal world and the pets they loved. Another thing in physics it is understood that energy cannot be created or destroyed...only transformed...so when the consciousness of an animal leaves their body...it has to go somewhere else. There are many pet psychics we are able to commune with the spirits of animals when they have left this plane and revealled things only the pet owners would know. So yes..I believe they have their own 'soul' or spiritual imprint. On the question of animals and their relationship go Gods and Goddesses. Most of them have been linked to animals as part of their 'power totems.' The Goddesses Bast, Freyja and Sekhmet are linked to cats in one form or another, butterfies are referred to in spiritual transformation. The mythic connection to animals, God and creation is everywhere in most religious teachings and in my mind leaves little doubt that animals have their own unique imprint, have free will, certainly love and love deeply and are provided for us by Creator to enhance the quality of our life. Our relationship to them is whatever we choose it to be...just as it is with all forms of life. I could go on but this is my perspective on your topic. Another good one Missak.

I think animals do have souls. I think they are more intuned to their souls than we are. At least the loving nature compared to humanes. We judge from appearances, animals don't. They love their owners no matter how badly they are treated. I do free animals have free will to do what they want. But they have a different path in life to lead compared to us. I think all anaimals can and do love. Look how well a wild animal takes care of their young. They would kill if another wild animal came near their young.

Free will isn't if can choose free will or not. Free will ids when you can make a choice to do wrong or right. I do belive animals have the free will to choose to do good or bad. Most animals do good or what they are trained to do. But there are other animals that choose to do bad and just do them no matter what you try to do.

If you are really sure that animals can choose to do bad or what they want, that would end my doubts on the topic. I am not sure, but sometimes I think that animals have no free will and that is what makes the difference with humans: while we can decide between good and bad, they only follow love so they are pure souls. That was the Native American thought, as far as I know. But sometimes I ask to myself: is it real than an animal can't make negative actions? Once I saw a dog attacking another for no reason, and the circomstances made me think he was just jealous and so his action was egoistical. So according to this, they do have an ego and free will.

Nice answer! But I didn't understand totally your point about free will. Do you think animals can choose not to love, as humans do?

Thoose are very interesting references! I didn't know of "Doga", but it is curious and I think I agree with it. The second link has also very interesting, it has different worldwide opinions. I specially like Saint Francis of Assisi, since he "corrects" somehow the poor vision that the christian Church usually has of this topic. The third link is very open to debat. If animals are pure, as Descartes says, they don't have free will, right? This is also Natif American's vision. I am not totally sure if I agree. I would like to hear your own opinion, and your conclusions about your links.

Yes, animals have soul but it depends regarding the basic life forms: It is said that the animalsliving in strong community base have community soul and other functions lead by natural processes! Animals living around and attached with human beings have soul! Some animals have theirown behaviour individuality, like cat families, dogs, horses, cows etc. They have limited free will regarding their vital world. We humans haveinterpreted animals and put them in relation to religion, occult, spiritual activities and peocesses. chinese astrology based on animals and birds, Shamanism has strong base on animal kingdom and its relation with human vitality, fate and future! In Indian mythology few animals and birds are vehicals of some gods and goddesses! Insects have community soul and vital settings createwed by nature for them! Their significance regarding evolution have had limited purpose though their presence is still living on earth! And they are connected with the infastructure of the life forms and related with a process sustaining the life and its existence! This is a vast subject and I know there are so many people here who have their sayings!

Thanks, very interesting points! I have never thought of "comunity souls" but now you say that, I am thinking... can humans somehow also have a comunity soul? As for the animals in mitlogy, astrology and occult/metaphysics, I have another discussion that I would be glad if you join and explain a little further: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1059770.aspx . My point there was to find common meanings in different cultures about animals usually related to this topics (such as the frog or the raven with witches) why do you think we find this meanings/uses? Are them from human imagination or real powers that thoose animals have?

Hmm. Never really thought of that in terms of philosophy. I just think that animals are here to help keep the ecological balance. And for us to have pets. I really don't know. I don't think anybody knows... Maybe they also fall in love. I sure hope they have souls. Do they have an ego? Well, maybe. Because they say that lions are very proud animals, king of the jungle and all, so maybe they do have egos.

Actually the "kings of the jungle" thing is a Western culture idea (where there are no lions). I think it comes from the similarity between their hair and a crown. In African cultures this "king of the jungle" is usually another one, such as the leopard. Anyways, nice answer, and it is still true that we can find "human" sentiments when obsercing animals such as proudness.

If you have a dog, look into his eyes. Now, tell me he doesn't have a soul? Dogs are people too! They are on their Path to God, but they still have a few lifetimes ahead of them. Dogs love unconditionally. People can learn from their dog. When a dog gives his love he demands Nothing in return.THis is true Love. Dogs are here as companions for their human masters. Both the dog and the human benefit from this relationship. Dogs can bring love and friendship to seniors in nursing homes. Its a sight worth seeing!

Dogs are not people. People are people. Dogs have the inability to pronouce words, syllables, or make cures for diseases such as people can. Animals can not make buildings from the earth. People can do that ONLY.

Well I really think dogs ARE better than we are in many ways yes they can´t build houses or that kind of stuff but they would NEVER betray their master and backstabb us like other humans love to do with us.

I think that the animals as all living creatures have inteligence, language, soul and own contact with the Universe.Actually when we reincarnate, we never know what is our karma and will we incarnate again in the human form, we can be everything. And each creature us a part with the Unity, so are the animals.

I think animals, like people are not simply bodies and minds. They were created by God and have souls, this is what I feel. speaking of feeling, animals feel things mentally and obviously physically. They are capable of emotions as well, fear, trust, love and even humour. We need to start treating non human animals better if we are to call ourselves compassionate and civilized.

I believe they do have souls, they do have personalities..animal love, is different from human love. And takes million more different forms. They all have a different language..ranging from primitive to advanced, depending on the species, and some are capable of learning human things. They think -- though their ways of thinking are alot different from ours too. They're here to remind us we're not alone, or nearly as clever as we often think ourselves to be. They're helpers and heroes..companions, and more. they feel things too. I believe they're a bit more in touch with the creator than we are.

Animals have a soul and personality. And anyone who has ever had a cat will tell you that animals definitely have free will. I know they can love because my cats love me, and I believe they miss me when I leave. They are our friends and companions. They keep us company and help through the bad times. They also share our joy in the good times. Cats in my opinion are one of the best creations of the God and Goddess. Mine are so precious to me. Blessed Be.

Aurone, I do believe our animals definately have personality, but I think what you think is free will in your cats is mostly indedpendence and temperment. I don't believe our pets have souls, because man was made in God's image. I know we don't all look alike, That image means like him. As in with a soul. Where as at a later time during creation God made the animals. As much as we we want to believe our loving, ever faithful pets are ppl too, in reality their not and don't have the same chacteristics as us. In a way that is good. I strongly believe they do have a stronger communication with God They don't have all the junk and baggage in between his word and commands as we ppl do.So, they can hear and follow his word easier. My dogs are my babies. I love them with my whole heart, but I just don't believe they have a soul. I would like to believe it. I'm kinda lost on the whole free will thing. I think they do as God commands them, but whether it is of free will or not, I'm not sure. I can tell the difference between stubborn or arrogant behavior in animals, but really,is that free will as we know it to be in the Bible?

after all we are social animals na. life brings us to many platforms that we may behave unsocially. animals of course have souls, they have interests... everything.. motivation...memory..etc.. only difference is in the way they look.

Sure, I believe animals have souls. They can see, hear, and understand when you tell them something (at least a dog or cat can). God gave us souls; why would he leave the animals here without one? He put them here on earth to serve a purpose, just like the rest of us. However, I do have to say that I wish God had left the snake off the Ark.

I believe they are very much the same as us, afterall we are animals too, infact I believe that animals souls are closer to the spiritual side of things than us, there have been many stories of animals doing things that we just can't explain how and why they do it, things like how they find their ownrs who have moved across the country, how an dog will lay next to the grave of his master and yet he was never shown where the grave was he found that himself, I think they are so much more developed in areas we don't even know about, we just think we are superior to animals in every way, but I don't think so.

not sure about souls but they do have different personnalitys. They can love and hate. By loving you they set by you so close as nothing can come between you they kiss ya ,wag tail in happiness . when they hate they growl like mad at that person and you better get that person away fast. As fo a relation shhip with God . there is no way to ask them so i guess not as I have never seen on pray or look to the sky for guidence.

I am trying to understand what your comment is saying. "Tain" do you mean train if so they do not have to be trained to protect if they love their offspring and their human companions. That is free will.

O yes animals do have a soul, personality, ego and free will, anyone who has had a pet will know about all the above. Maybe they have a different God and a different heaven when they die their souls go there :) iam not sure but i liked Saint Francis of Assisi who belived they are brothers and sisters so maybe they are our brothers and sisters from a different dimension :) Or maybe God knew that we humans will never be able to give unconditional love to eachother so he made animals as our companions so we can receive unconditional love from atleast one of His creations!there are so many theories but i think they are evolve as we do maybe not physically but emotionally as we grow we learn so many different emotions and so do animals speacilly the pet ones like horses and dogs. There are people called 'horse whisperes' they are called so b'cos during the early times when horses were not tamed they were able to 'communicate' with the horses and tame them....so maybe the horses themselves were being instructed by their God to be friends with humans! thats 'my' theory LOL but 'horse whisperes' do exist so obiviously all of us can communicate with animals and they can with us..

I believe they do! Although we are different in nature and live in different manners, feel that animals are just like us. They are a creation of God as we are and placed on this earth to live along side of us and no matter how different they may look or even live from us, we all share one thing, that is we all breathe to survive, so who’s not to say that the same free will as us humans. It would be interesting one day if we were able to communicate with animals and truly get an explanation to all our questions, but until that day comes I will stay strong in my beliefs.

Hi there missak, I have actually thought of this question MANY MANY times before. I am a christian and in our high school, we have Christian studies teacher who can answer our question about the religion. I asked him this question and the answer he gave was that only HUMANS have souls and dogs, cats, and other animals are just like ordinary everyday objects, such as a phone or a pair of sissors, they do not have a soul, but are merely objects placed on this earth, like rocks basically, in God's eyes =D Hope that answers your question, they do not get a chance to relate to God and believe in him anyways =.=

so...and just a rhetorical question, seeing as that's not what I beleive. do you not beleive you will be reunited with the animals you love in the next life? that must be a horrible thing to beleive in. if you don't mind me saying. me beleif that I will be with my precious animals again some time gives me great comfort. and one particular dog we had is still with me in soul, very often.

Actually this is very discussed in christianity also, and the easy answer of your teacher is not exact, althought it represents the oficial opinion that sometimes claimed the Church. But nowadays, as I have been told in my christian studies in high school also, the last Concilium (the text that resumes the conclutions of the teological debats in the Church) says that animals are for us like we are for God: sons or subordinates. But one of the highest teologists and writer of the history of christianity, Saint Francis of Asis, talked about animals as our brothers with the ones we have to share the creation and everything, as they are also sons of God and have their soul. I agree more with this line.

I am sorry if i offended you in anyway, but that is just what my Christian Studies teacher told me, he said that dogs and other animals are just like objects, like a rock, do not have a soul.... I know when i heard that i was really upset too! and i still am, and i really hope it is not true and that i will not believe it, but i do not know the true answer to your question. I do not believe that there will be a "next life" that would be what you call, re-incarnation, which is a famous theory in Buddhism. I believe that we only get to live our lives ONCE and then we re-unite with God ... =D
