Writing a book

Have you tried writing your own book? It's something weird, but I'm trying to write. Someday (when cut&paste will be allowed for me) I'd post it here.. Feel free to comment and criticize. I'm more of a reader than a writer, though. It's a passive thing really.

By the way, are you writing a work of fiction or are you writing a non-fiction? It would better if you join a private critique group because here there are so many members and the chance of someone copying your work is greater. I also think you should maybe change the names of your characters, place, and time period while here and not to put all of it but maybe an insert. Also even though there are authors or those working on their novel, they might not have time to critique your book. They may do the first chapter or a chapter after that, but most of the critiques will be people who have just started to write, so you have to be able to discern what is necessary and what is not. That is a warning. What you have to do, is to look through the member lists for those who have been working on a novel for some time and for those who are published authors. Those are the ones you should be concerned with. After the members have critiqued your work, and after some time, you will be able to critique your own, but it might take years. Anyway when you do not need others' critiques, then you will know.

I have written one novel and am working on my second, which will be my first. The first novel is on a shelf waiting for a major overhaul. My current novel is in its sixth edit and hopefully will be ready to send out to agents by the end of the year. Our writing group has decided to put together an anthology. One member of our group has had many books published so he is going to help us put together an anthology of short stories and poems. I am so looking forward to this! In certain cases I wouldn't put my writing on the internet. Publishers and contest require previously unpublished work. Anything posted online is considered "published". I'm not sure how it would work for someone posting pieces of a novel bits at a time. It's just not something I would do. I get my critiquing from my writing group.

I've been writing for decades; only recently though have I written something I'm quite pleased with, a kind of experimental memoir. I've tended to publish it in portions at Blogs; and various writing sites online. The internet is a fabulous development for budding writers; they can grow as writers, generate interest and a potential readership; and also, publish their work in sections, which they can constantly edit and re-edit. It only seems like yesterday that I was bashing away at an ancient typewriter using correction fluid to correct mistakes, only for no one to read my work, so much of which ended up being destroyed anyway. On the internet, everyone can see your work, and you can really develop. My main advice would be: don't be upset by criticism; if one person doesn't like a piece of writing; another will love it! Good luck!

I have tried writing books. I have good stories in mind but i am not able to put them in the right words to captivate the reader. I am still trying and i will try until i succeed but i dont have the time and patience for it. So i do it very rarely but i still do it. But somehow, i like reading more than writing.
